I have my car on SORN at the moment and its ran out of MOT today. I know you can drive a car with no MOT if your taking it for and MOT and thats the only reason your driving it. I also know that you were able t do this if the car has no road tax. Because you need an MOT to get it taxed. This was true back in 2010 but I was wandering if you guys are aware of the law changing at all??

As long as its insured you should be fine subject to the statement below, however i would check with your insurance company for their advice, as a contradiction in terms seems to be that if the vehicle isnt taxed or mot'd then the insurance is invalid, having said that ive done it a few times with different cars lol

"Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.

ย

This also applies to vehicles being driven to and from a prearranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test."

I always wondered how you got it home.

ย

If it failed, surely you cant drive it.

If it passes, do you need to leave it there and go get it taxed?

Technically yes......

ย

.....but at ยฃ50-odd for an MOT, it's cheaper to remain legal and pay your road tax!!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
