Have any of you guys got a mobile contract the cheaper end of the scale that doesn't give you a free phone?

I have an iPhone 4 and a monthly rolling contract with Orange that gives me 500 texts and 300 minutes (no data) for about £11 a month which I rarely go over. I got caught out on a bank holiday a month ago when my alternator went and after spending nearly 2 hours on the phone to the RAC's 0800 number my bill had tripled as 0800 numbers are not included in free minutes FFS!

I'm after something with a bit of data as well now I think but how much do I need for checking emails and the forums etc each month?

I thought only drug dealers and pimps had 2 phones

Which ever it is I'll take some at a knock down price

:shifty:

Something for you to consider...

Vodafone offer a 20% monthly discount if you or anyone you know works for the MOD or possibly the local council (I know they do in Dorset so I'd assume elsewhere). Using my sister's (she works for Dorset council) payroll number or something I managed about £7 off my monthly bill which helps!

Guy in the Vodafone shop told me about it when I was renewing. They don't advertise it but if you ask about it when getting a new contract they'll sort you out. Any MOD/council employee can apply the discount to themselves and 4 other people!

Cool, how much is it?

£15 with virgin unlimited everything apart from 0800 numbers!

Do you know what the 0800 numbers actually cost on your contract? I worked mine out at about 24p a minute! Bloody ridiculous

Couldn't justify it myself but that sounds very reasonable for two phones unlimited. Like Tomo said, only drug dealers have two phones:lol:

Never knew that, my sister works in the offices for May Gurney who do the kerbside collections for the council so i'll see if that counts lol.

What I was originally thinking was basically calling Orange and saying 'so-and-so does this contract please match it' which they will as I get good coverage with them, been with them about 10 years and never had a problem apart from the outrageous £33 bill!

think im paying 17 quid for it on a 2 year contract managed to get it while it was on some special offer

duno all the information will be on the virgin website

Whatever contract you sign up for, I believe that 0800 numbers are not free when dialing from any mobile!!

What I do know though, is that the AA has thought of that - IE that you are out in your car when you breakdown - so they have an alternative 0121 number to call.... Maybe the RAC has one as well....

Richard:balloon:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I,m not with them...yet! but I understand the three nentwork has created an ultra fast 3G network that is only a little slower than the new 4G service which is being charged for extra by most operators, despite poor coverage, as I understand it they don't charge extra for this and even if you go to 4G in the future they will not charge their clients the extra!...this speed benefit may be limited to specific areas though, as is all high speed data.

Worth considering given your Data requirements

I'm with 3 and now out of contract so pay £25 per month for all you can eat data and 5000 3 to3 minutes(mrs and family on 3 as well, and some mates) 3000 any network minutes and unlimted txts.

you could look at MVNO's (Virtual Mobile Network Operators) i think Giff Gaff have some good deals and run via the 02 network...Similar to mine is £20 but 02 network coverage is poor where i am, so i've not switched..
