Right guys anyone know what I would need to do regarding this.

Brought ades car but its currently on a private plate which he is keeping. He has sent all the info off to the dvla for it to be changed but as of yet nothing is back. Now I need to arrange insurance for the 31st and got a great quote from footman james for 185 quid. Now they need the reg number so which bloody reg to I give them. The private one that I will be using for a few days or take a chance that the old reg is still active. Im really not sure on this type of stuff so any help here would be brilliant

Great quote, did you explain to FJ the situation? Im sure they will have come across that one plenty of times

You've still got the rest of the week left Mark, chances are it could have gone through by then, plate changes dont take as long nowadays

you don`t need reg number for insurance. i imported impreza from japan once . first thing you do is buy insurance then mot and only then you applay for number plate ... just tell them you don`t have number plate yet and they will sort it out

That's not necessarily accurate.

It's up to the insurance company whether or not they will insure the car without the registration number. Some will cover it using the chassis number. But it's completely up to the company. I'd say, chances are the reg will be the old one but best not taking the chance.

I would suggest that you explain what's going on to footman James and see what they want to do.

Oh and they do require a reg you cant move on to payment unless you put in a valid reg number found a new problem though ades reg is displayed as a 2002 model car but the car is actually a 1989 how has that happened lol

I mean his private plate on comparison sites that is comes up as a 2002 is that a known issue with these sites.

I would be patient and just wait for the paperwork to arrive from the DVLA. I deal with them several times a week in my job and they are slow getting stuff out but that's just the way it is i'm afraid.

ye that's fine and all that but I still need to get my car home and I wont drive illegal so I will need it insured

A lot of companies get there info from a company called glasses. They will no doubt get it from the deal and manufacturers. But there wasn't a 300zx made in 2002 lol

I still think you should call the company and ask them if they can cover it under the chassis number or something

go with the current reg because thats whats on the car and when the plates are changed over ie you get the logbook with the original reg on it , give the insurance company the new(original) reg and they will put it on the mid,

unless you know that the current private plates are on the mid, check here http://ownvehicle.askmid.com , you can drive it third party if you are insured fully compy on another car. also bare in mind if he has requested a reg transfer and if its still on the mid it may not show up if and when the popo do a pnc check. usually when u get new/private plates put on you have two days or seven as ive been told, to get the new/private plates on the car. thats when the old/replaced plates become unregistered.

185 quid in London - how???? lol seriously, something sounds a little wrong there but hope it's right for you ;)

I dot know Vijay I went with one of the companies in the insurance bracket on the site here they asked for my membership number and that's what It came back as remember its classic car insurance not normal car insurance

Even classic used to be way more than that. I know I haven't insured my Z for a few years now but I used to pay close to a thousand and I was in my late thirties then with a clean license ;)

weird mate I just double checked and they have all my correct info postcode is correct, its with royal sun alliance.

I do have some restrictions

The car has to be garaged from 10pm to 6am

Not used for work

garaged when not in use

1500 miles limited

Not sure why it was so cheap mate but everything is correct. I only live 5 mins walk from work so I wont really use her just love the cars so much that I have to have one lol My bmw is the daily driver and the cobra is the track car so really shes just a toy and I think some insurance companies realise it wont be driven all day every day and only used rarely.

Mainly to meet up with you horrible lot or at shows. She will have one or two big drives up to zedworld but other then that nothing. Vijay you gonna come ace café in august im arraging a London meet there ill sort the time and date out when ive spoken to them about it. Open to all areas by the way guys not just London

Well as long as all your details are right cos I wouldn't put it past any insurance company to try and get out of paying out if it came to it ;)

Yeah I should be up for that although I wouldn't be in my Z :( So you bought AdeF's car? Nice guy :)

you can drive it third party if you are insured fully compy on another car.

That's not entirely correct mate. You can drive third party only on another car that you don't own but as mark bought the car he can't do this. Also you'd have to be over 25.

Due to fairly recent changes in the law, if the car isn't declared sorn it should be insured (and subsequently be on MID). If it isn't, then technically, when/if you park the car up to go to the shops or whatever, there's a chance it could be towed.

Make sure the get insurance on it mate.

Just to put this in perspective. I actually work in insurance and funnily enough, for RSA (royal&sunalliance)

so my wifes car wouldnt be considered mine since its not on my name and i could drive it third party?even though im not insured on it? i still cant get any cheap insurance for my z, and when is it a classic if its more then 20 years or 22 years?

Sorry, it's normally you, your spouse or partners car that is against it. Be worth checking in your own policy wording or course. But I doubt your wife's car would be covered mate

Well im 31 ha ha yeah bird the car is mot'd taxed etc and I would never drive without insurance. Im gonna go with royal sun alliance I mean bird works for them cant be that bad.... I couldent drive by association anyways as im only a named driver on my policy as its a BMW and the insurance for that was insane without having my dad as the main policy holder.

So quite honestly I think we are a good company. I've been there for over 10 years. I currently work in customer relations but did work in the underwriting side of things (not an actual underwriter but the if best you can get without being and moving to like London or Manchester)
