Alternator issue??

Hi all,

Looking for some advice really. I was driving around all day today mainly on long runs but as i got to town and was at traffic lights or roundabouts i.e slow traffic, the cars revs and power seemed very inconsistent. At first it was dipping in revs and seemed to cut in and out and then just as i was coming home tonight sat at traffic lights the car was dipping in revs and seemed as if the car was trying to stay on...i then went to take off and there was no power and seemed as if the car was struggling to go. I had my foot down but was fighting against cutting out. I pulled over and turned the engine off. Waited 5 mins and started it back up turning off the headunit...after that it was fine.

The battery is less than a year old and the heaviest duty u can get however i have a subwoofer in the car and after turning head unit off seemed ok. I keep reading the alternator is a common fault and if so does this sound like an alternator problem? And also is it an expensive fix?

Thanks!
