well where to start looking on this one, i've gained a slight misfire but only for the first couple of seconds after a cold start (as in car been stood a few days) it is litterally as the car first fires and builds upto cold tick over revs then it's gone, it was accompanied by a puff of smoke this morning first time it's done that, then car runs ok with no issues, i've got no water loss but using a bit of oil, and prob due a oil change too. any help appreciated

good point i don't think i have but they were done about 6 months before i bought the car, ok had car 3 years but only done about 5k in that time

See what sort of deposits are on there. Might be that you have a slight drip of oil getting onto one the plugs which is why you're seeing a missfire and subsiquent puff of smoke.

i was thinking possible valve stem oil seals or oil pushing past them where it's due a change, other thought was maybe electrical contact gremlins,i have changed injector connectors since i've had the car but not coil pack connectors although these were changed by previous owner i don't know when

Generally if it was contacts, it would do it all the time or at least more frequent than on very first startup. Doesn't hurt to clean the MAF connector along with the coil pack connectors and PTU connectors.

not long put a s2 ptu on with loom but could be some corrosion in there i know the s1 ptu was stuck firm on the connectors when i removed it, there is my weekend planned then lol
