I know nobody here probably means any offence but could we please refrain from using the expression Jap on the forum. I've worked beside Japanese people for a bit and it's not liked. J-spec or Japanese takes a bit longer to type but it's nicer.

Since it's a forum about cars I hadn't considered that! But probably yes. I hope you didn't mention that you you were looking forward to your 'chinky' in the take-away shop you might find that you've got some extra chef's special sauce.

If so i guess youd be writing to every Car magazine in the UK to?

So when you want to say USA? is that wrong?

Does that mean we can't call Wazza a **** cause he's from SA???

The OP does have a point: outside of the import scene, 'jap' is a derogatory term.

However, Peter, since the word is only used here in association with the import scene, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

at least when we say jap we dont highlight it in red!!! :p

does that mean we can get offended when people call us "Brit's"??? what about american Yanky's, austrailian aussies etc etc

bit silly if you ask me:rolleyes:

Political correctness is the biggest load of c*** to hit this country in millenia.

Jap is an abreviation, explain why Jap is offensive.

My name is Timothy but is abbreviated to Tim, seems very similar to me.

I work in publishing, for publishing houses throughout the world and what we can and cannot now print defies belief.

Shall we take this a stage further, the BBC recently launched a radio station solely for Black music, should I be offended? If the same organisation launched a station catering for Caucasion music only, to the exclusion of all others, people would be in uproar screaming white-supremsist. We live in a very confused world.

I persionally mean no offence using the term Jap, I have huge respect for a nation that can take the ideas of the rest of the world and make them better. :D

I suggest you are on the wrong forum m8, try twinturbo.net, the Americans are far ahead of us in the PC stakes.

No, I'm not raciest, I hate everyone :@

Tim

Unbelieveable....

It's amazing what some people feel the need to complain about...

I can't even see why it would be offensive outside of this forum....please do explain as I'm totally lost here....

Brrrrr.......Winters here. Getting a bit NIPPY!!!

Split Link = Chink

offensive is this?

what do you call an overweight chink?

a chunk :D:D

thats offensive to all forms of links and steel cables :D

You cant call a black board now cos is offensive. Its a chalk board. Errr, no its black and its a board. Really we should call black people brown, cos they are brown. I have seen a few people with black skin.

You cant call it a white board cos its offensive. Its a pen board. Errr no its white and its a board. Again we should not call people white, cos its more a peach colour and if its darker, its tanned.

You cant a person who delivers letters a mail man any more. Its a person person. :D

Political correctness has gone silly.

Stuart

Yep...that's America for you...

It's ChairPerson now, regardless of gender...

An example :

As civilisations decline, they become increasingly concerned with form over substance, particularly with respect to language. At the time of the First World War we called it shell shock--a simple term, two one-syllable words, clear and descriptive. A generation later, after the Second World War had come and gone, we called it combat fatigue. It meant the same thing, and there were still just two words--but the two syllables had grown to four. Today the two words have doubled, and the original pair of syllables have mushroomed to eight. It even has an acronym, PTSD--post traumatic stress disorder. It still means the same thing, and it still hurts as much or as little, but it is more in tune with current effete sensibilities.

Can I not call Massive Roy Massive then? What about Le Big Mac??? FFS! :D

World is going bonkers! :D

I'm a limey...I'm a limey!!! :D

On the occasion of a state visit to the UK by Emperor Hirohito with a pic of him coming down the aircraft steps at Heathrow

"A Nasty Nip In The Air"

teehee

semi-seriously, I too worked for a bunch of J-models (Seiko & Kawasaki) and Peter's right - they don't like Jap or even less Nip. Dunno why. It's not PC, just being polite to acknowledge other people's preferences.

Limey used to be derogatory, so did Yank - now people are mostly used to it. But good 'old cockanee come to the rescue with Septic - not very nice. ;)

And even tho there is a band called Niggaz with Attitude (so my youger generation advisers tell me) I would hesitate to go down Electric Avenue and shout "Nigger" © Dangerous Dave.

Some people hate Taffy, I would hope Scotty is OK but would expect anyone to take offence at Sweaty.

You can call your mates things you wouldn't dream of calling strangers - at least if you want to keep your teeth!

What a load of old sloblocks.....

You're having a laugh aren't you?

Get real-making ridiculous comments like that only problems where there aren't any.

Get a life.
