I've just sold an Import MR-S and am looking to buy a Zed. There are so many versions out there and am looking for a TT, Manual, 2 seater. I know these are very hard to come by.

Are all of them Targa and do some come in single turbo form or is that an NA conversion?

Also what version would you suggest?

Thanks Adam

Hiya

This will have to be an import because the swb was not sold over here. I have what your after but i'm not selling ;)

I think all the swb are targas but i stand to be corrected and I think these were available in either na or TWIN turbo.

I love the look and handling of the swb but some think that the 2+2 is better  so IMHO try and get a swb TT manual but as you say these are very rare.

I wish you luck

Cheers

Martin

Adam,

Yeah, I'm looking into this too - well, from what I know there're only Twin Turbo or N/A models. No single turbos. Also, I *think* that UK models never came in hard-top (coupe) or Short Wheel Base guise. You can get these from Japan/US though.

I'm personally looking for a UK TT with a manual box (happy with the longer WB) but they're rarer than hen's teeth. Money burning a hole in my pocket!!

Good luck!

Russ.

I saw a single turbo for sal on Autotrader! It must have been a NA conversion. I've found a TT, SWB, Targa, Auto at a good price and I think i'll settle for that. I read somewhere that you can convert the autos with a manual box would that be expensive?

Here are a few things to consider.

All UK ZX's are 2+2, Twin Turbo with Tagra Tops.

Jap come in 2+2 and 2 seater, Twin Turbo and NA. There are hard top ZX's but I think that was a later thing they did.

Both UK and Jap come in Automatic and Manual form. Only a small percentage of Z's are Manual.

The NA donesnt come with HICAS, 4 wheel steering and doesnt come with turbos too. ;)

Insurance on a Jap NA will be more than on a UK Twin Turbo.

It is harder to find a very good condition UK than a good condition Jap. But with Jap cars, the body may be in better condtion but the Japanese people love to mod thier cars and very few come into the country stock. That also means we dont know how well the work has been. People have bought low mileage Jap cars and had nothing but engine problems. But that is true with UK cars.

If you are looking at a Z, I am sure someone who lives close to you would not mind going looking at it with you.

Stuart.

Yeah, but you see all sorts for sale there! There's a "300 SX" available at the moment

I'd have to pass the transmission-change question to my learned colleagues as I'm a newbie too, but my gut reaction would be "don't do it!" Still, if it leaves a nice tidy UK 5-speed available for me, I'll be happy ;)

Lemme know how you get on!

Russ.

Just saw your age. Have you checked out Insurance prices first?

Single turbo? Could that be a pre 89Z? The old 300ZX.

Also are you looking for a manual?

How much you looking to spend?

Stuart

Unless someone has done something REALLY horrible then any single turbo 300 will be a Z31 not a Z32.

An auto - manual conversion is fairly straight forward and several people here have done it (or had it done).

at your age you are lookng at about 3-4k for import insurance,

im 20 atm and my insurance is 1800 a year.

I would get some quotes before you look at imports,

MikeGroves is yours an import or UK?

If it's an import where was that insurance from?

If UK where anyway?

Im 19 with UK manual, and my quote was about £1850 from firebond, not driving the car at the moment cos the car doesnt work so tried to cancel insurance.

£450 to cancel! i only took out the policy 1month ago and i was never told this!

Currently getting some advice about it tho.

Mines a UK manual with firebond, impossible to get insured for an import under 21 for less than 4grand,

im 21 soon so it will then drop to 1400 fully comp when i renew :)

Just won't rev over 5500revs (unless in neutral or cluth in).

Low end torque feels good but loses power at the top untill it just wont go no more.

Boost is fine.

Changed timing belt (to check teeth lining up) & no difference.

Ign timing is ok.

Sounds like there could be a slight misfire at v.high revs but im not 100% sure.

I must say i recently noticed a bit of a fuel leak by the little thingy (fuel pressure regulator?)y injector 5. Think that might occur only when cold.

Thanks for any suggestions.

hmm, the fuel pressure regulator is suppsoed to slightly increase fuel pressure when on boost, maybe there is a problem related to that if it is leaking?

hmm... good thinking.

ill make sure everythings all tighened, anyone got one 4sale? Might aswell stick another in while at it.

That was my initial thought, but i dont want to buy a new one to find thats not the problem.

A fuel pressure gauge would be a good idea as it will check the whole fuel system but i dont want a permanent one, especially with them being so expensive!

robtor,Change the fuel regulator assembly, part no 22670Y00, mine stated leaking at the pub meet at the weekend, next day started it up and the smell was well bad ,leaking like a good un, straight down onto the head through plenum, well risky,PLUS CAR NOT SEEMED TO RUN AS WELL AT AROUND 80+,got another from AndyZ coming, give him a call/mail,he may have another.;)

Yes sir!! ;)

Will send email in a second, also my Z has stupid mpg, i know they're bad but we're talking 10-15, closer to 10 i think.

Maybe this contributes to it.

would have to be a pretty major leak tho!

Thanks for advice

Hi Robtor - just fyi, as a wimp, I get 20 - 24mpg.

Check you MAF. Ian had a problem with is which caused the car not go over 2000rpm.

What happens when you reach that 5000. Misfire or just wont allow over it. Also when you floor it to rev it does it shoot to 5000rpm and say there or does it climb quick then slow down?

Stuart

I checked the MAF, nothing noticably wrong but on the other hand i don't know what a working one looks like!

When floored it accelerates well but by about 4500 it starts to slow down and by about 5500 it just won't rev any higher. When at this point there's a bit of a funny noise.

Also some times it'll be hesitating quite badly.

According to my stock boost gauge boost is fine and no codes from ecu.

If the MAF has gone tits up, you wont see anything. but the car will feel dead flat, it sends the wrong amount of air mass to the ecu which then under/over fuels

I must say according to my cheapo voltmeter it was slightly off what it was supposed to be doing diagnostics.

Trouble is i don't want to buy a new one if its fine.

Ball park figure for a MAF?

For those interested.

I'm 21 with 3 years NC. I'm finding it really hard to get a nice UK Spec. My last car Insurance gp 13 was only £750 fully comp with elephant.

Should I be looking somewhere else other than autotrader and E&M for a decent UK Z
