Overheated Fairlady

Looking for a suitable engine to replace mine that overheated on the M4 without any indcation or warning. Having had a new water pump cambelt service five months prior, my nissan dealer now have my Fairlady in bits and denying any fault with the water pump, but cannot explain why it over heated... Can a UK engine go into my 1990 FAIRLADY TT Z2?? Can anyone help with a replacement engine ?

They tend to over heat cos of a pipe split, but I would not be suprised if it was the pump that did it. Of couse they are gonna say that its nothing to do with them. Cos it would mean the cost of an engine rebuild.

Goto another place, there are loads who do better and cheaper jobs on a Z than Nissan do. Where you from?

Cant see any problem with putting a UK engine into a Jap car. I think many people have done it but with a Jap engine in a UK car.

Ask AndyZ he is usually breaking a Z or two ask him,

If not I should think he can tell you the best place to find one.

sorry to hear about your troubles, but dont jump to conclusions too quickly. many things can cause overheating, fans not cutting in correctly, blocked rad, sticking thermostat, head gaskets blown(gulp!), leaks causing loss of coolant etc.

the main thing is: find out what caused it otherwise you risk it happening again, if its the rad, fan etc which you may be reusing.

hope your back on the road soon

My Z overheated because the viscous coupling for the mechanical fan failed. I only discovered that it had gone when I was flushing the system prior to putting some 'wetter water' in, and noticed that when the lump got hot, the fan got erratic, then stopped. There is a bi-metallic strip built in to the coupling and for some reason wasn't operating properly. New (2nd hand ) coupling, been fine ever since. Prior to this I'd changes a split bottom hose (not cheap) but it had never been reliable. It's fine now, 2 months and quite a few miles on.

Perhaps try Nippon.
