Got an intermittent problem with my Pulsar GTIR, it starts first time every time, but sometimes after a run it won't restart after a few minutes. The next morning it will start again as usual. The previous owner said it was down to the alarm and you have to 'pump the accelerator once'... Well I can't get that to work and surely Theres a problem. One day it's going to catch me out when I refuel miles from home.

Has anyone got any ideas what it could be? I have done a google search but nothing really comes up, and I really don't like the owners forums... Don't think it'll be long before I get another Z lol..

It's got a dizzy and rotor arm on this engine - could it be something to do with that?

Dont know much about pulsars,

But id check if it has crankshaft sensor,

Or ignition amplifier like ptu has steams said.

Or compression test for low compression.

Hope u sort it mate.

Or just read last bit dizzy and rotor arm, has it got a coil could be that,

If its electronic ignition, then check amplifier or could have a crank sensor cause must have a trigger somewhere.

Thanks Terry thats a good list to go on. It did it the other day after 10 miles driving, so it doesnt even have to be that hot.

Same deal as the Zed: Diagnostic check.

I can live map these same as the Zed by the way.... Just saying....

P.S. The one thing I hate about my Pulsar are the other (typical) owners. The cars, however, are fantastic!

Sounds like it could be either ignition or valve timing.

Has is done high mileage?

The only reason I say valve timing is that depending on the type of drive, IE belt or chain, It can become retarded due to stretch.

Sounds like crank sensor. Had the same problem on my punto, was funny until it cut out on me at a Set of lights at rush hour!

Cost a £10 for a new one and a ten minute fix never came back again.

Thanks guys, might have to try a different crank sensor on it and see how it goes. Dave it's done about 80k.

Seriously.... Diagnostic check, no guessing required :)

It's a chain-driven 2L SR20DET on ITBs with solid tappets, best iteration of the SR available.

Cam angle sensor is part of the distributor.

IGN on

Bridge the 12V ign & Check pins

Remove bridge

Count flashes of engine check light on dash

Re-bridge to clear fault codes

Ahhh see what you mean thanks mate, will try that tomorrow. Btw where abouts is the ecu on them?

Relatively awkward to get to: Under the dash, behind the centre console and mounted on the floor slap-bang in the middle of the car. You need to undo one bracket from the passenger-side footwell, the other from the driver's side.

Baz you've posted on the wrong forum mate, could a mod correct the error of your ways please .

Feck orf... this is my home

80k? Not excessive I suppose.

Meant to ask, have you an engine management light on the dash?

It just sounds so similar to a friends issues lately and that turned out to be the valve timing.

Maybe something similar, just a thought mate.

Any updates by the way?
