Usually its bacterior build up un the evaporator, causes a right orrible whiff!

you can buy spray sanitizer for it, kills the nastys & makes it smell all nice :D

I cant see how petrol would get into the AC system by accident. Its all pressurised and sealed. If you do have a leak petrol does not get into it. You most probably have lose fuel line clips in the engine bay. Get a screwdriver and tighten them up.

Hi,

It's that time of year again when the colder weather causes the fuel lines to shrink slightly, creating a petrol smell thru the air vents.

Best remedy is to tighten every fuel line connector you can find. This may entail removing the plastic cover on top of the engine to reach them.

It's a fiddly but easy enough job and I had to do it a couple of times over the winter on my car.

Try this first before spending anymore cash on other remedies!;)

Or better still, go for one of these fuel line kits, reduces 8 connections down to 4 and looks bloomin luverly at the same time as serving a purpose :D

many thanks all of you for taking the time to reply

i'll get out the screwdriver first! if all fails i'll buy a kit

paul sending me a piccie of exactly whereit all is as I have no manual and have only had the car a week so I need to get used to where everything is:confused:

the fumes are doing me head in gotta get it sorted

You may need to jack up the front of the car, and clean out your A/C drain. The drain gets partially clogged after time and may need to be cleaned out to drain the still water which is festering bacteria.

Pretty simple and easy to locate, should solve the bacteria smells.

I would have no idea on the petrol smell though, unless you have a fuel leak an are only smelling petrol when taking air from outside.

As for the strong fuel smells, try looking/feeling under the Fuel Damper Assembly or the Fuel Regulator Assembly there opposite each other left and right at rear of engine, mine started last week, found the leak just under the Regulator where the pipe comes up from plenum base, for more info try this link.

Hi,

The fuel lines may look ok but the joints probably still need tightening. The fuel smell does go once the engine is warm.I only used to notice it at start up in the mornings.

You may possibly have a leak elsewhere (i.e fuel pressure regulator or fuel damper) so it's probably best to get someone to have a look and give a second opinion.

You don't want to lose your car due to an under bonnet fire!

JEZ

Put talc around all the fuel pipe joints before you start it up in the morning - it will show up the leak easily.

It's usually hard to see unless you have a major leak and as the fuel evaporates so quickly this makes the job a lot easier.

Check around and under the fuel regulator and damper on top of the engine at the back (one each side and look like black mushroom type thingies!).

Also check the fuel pipes under the throttle linkage in the middle at the front of the engine. There's a short piece of pipe about 2 inches long that leaks quite often and is a pain in the arse to change - I know!

You really need to look at the one under the fuel pressure regulator. Its hard to see. The pipe runs down to the injector rail. That was the blighter that really pissed fuel on mine when cold and you could not see it only smell it and if you looked under the car you could see it dripping off the back of the sump. It gets that bad. Stops as it warms up. Just watch the frosty mornings are here and there 'll be loads of posts re fuel smells.
