Can anyone help/advise me on how to ad a small video please? (maybe there is a how to link?)

I have this worrying top end rattle near the rear of the engine just at the point of coming off throttle.

Difficult to describe, so would love you guy's to have a listen.

Cheers in advance.

Upload your Video to Youtube or Photobucket ...

then copy the Video URL link from the address bar

when u type up your Post with in the txt box on the forum u will see 2 icons

with in the list of editing bar

the last 2 one is for Pic other is for Video ..

copy the URL link in the pop up box and then do your posting as normal

The youtube wrap embed thingy is the very last one on the 3rd row, it's just a blank white space for some reason  but still works perfectly :thumbup1:.

Cheers guys!

Hopefully I will be able to post a vid at the weekend.

Fingers crossed.

Thinking out load...

So first I take a short video on my digital camera? What do I do then? Save it to my desktop?

Once I have saved it somewhere, then what do I do?

(I am laughing at this point as I can't believe how thick I am!) lol

Go easy guys.

Yes you can save it to desktop, then you need photobucket, youtube or similar and from those sites you click upload you then find it as the boxes will open up and it'll do the rest.

OK. The saga so far. I have managed to capture the video on my camera.

Appears that the file format is quick time?

What would be the best format to upload to you tube?

Hopefully if I have got this right, there should be a video of my engine rattle.

Please have a listen and let me know what you think the rattle is.

Hi matey,

Sounds a little like a sticky lifter. Try some of this and see if it goes, easy and cheap fix.

Hi Alan,

I did try this for a 100 miles or more last year, and although it did quieten the lifter a bit, it did not go completely.

It is difficult to hear on the video, but there is still the sound of the lifter.

But under certain rev conditions there is definitely a distinct separate rattle, I am worried that it may be something more sinister though.

ps Sorry Alan, meant to say thanks for the input mate.

No worries matey........

Maybe the dodgy lifter is defective and requires replacing..... This is quite common.

Hi Tony, hope u r well matey.....

I am not making the rad brackets any more my friend, sorry...... I do however have 2 A/M rad brackets un-polished, but are a tad on the small side. Not sure if they will fit an A/M rad. Yours free, just to cover postage and packaging.

I am sure the Zcentre is selling them for £25, polished SS........ look good IMHO.... Link below

I hope you are right Alan. I would hate to think that it might be something like a little end.

I was assured when I got the car that the engine has only done 20 odd thousand miles.

Mind you, I did have her laid up for 2/3 years while I sorted out the bodywork, maybe that did not do her much good?

Is changing the lifters a big job? What would be involved?

Anyone else with similar or alternative views on what the rattle could be?

Nervous about driving her hard over the coming summer not knowing what the problem might be.

The last thing I want to do is f*ck the motor up!

Hi, I had similar rattle on my stock motor I rebuilt (stripped and cleaned lifters) and also initially thought it was lifters but then again dirty lifters make a tic, tic noise and not so much a rattle IMO.

But in my case when first starting the motor the rattle would start at just above idle to about 2000rpm, I would switch off the motor and wait a couple of seconds and resart the motor and the noise was gone and would not happen again. The rattle did not happen on every cold up start and I was leaning towards VCT related issue.

Thanks for your help mate.

You too Markderby.

Any thoughts on what the problem might be though?

Thanks for your input antman,

I think I will check over the VCT circuits and solenoids, may have a fault as you say. Should be easy enough to check that they are getting voltage. Will need to work put how to check the solenoids themselves mind.
