Im not sure if this is possible as after searching the net I can't find what im looking for so if anyone knows the proper name or where to get them let me know.

I have a M8x1.25 bolt that needs to go into a M10x1.25 threaded hole.

Im picturing it as an oversized helicoil or threaded insert. It needs to be able to hold 25ft lb. This is not Z related.

Does it have to be flush,

U can get m10 to m8 adapter but it will be sticking out...

What material is it in and what is it for, if its say steel can u not fill hole with weld drill and re tap the thread...

Or get some m10 threaded rod, cut it down put it in the hole then drill that and tap it..

It would need to be pretty much flush, a flange on the end would be ok but the smaller thread needs to be inside the larger.

It's in steel but last time I used the mig on thick steel I couldn't get decent penetration, it just spat alot if you know what I mean. Im not sure what feed speeds should be and it was on full amps so just might not have the balls. I don't think I could drill out a 10mm threaded bar accurately enough.

It's to secure the end of a caliper to carrier bolt on a MK5 golf tdi. Whoever changed the discs last wrecked the thread and did a bad job helicoiling it as part of it came out with the bolt and the rest pushed through when I tried to re-secure it. A new carrier is an option but if you've ever seen one on a tdi they didn't make it simple. I could just weld the back of the bolt to the carrier but im not one for bodging and im not sure if it's even accessible with the disc installed off the top of my head. Any ideas?

if u do end up welding again get your self Natural ( black ) bolts Not silver-zink coated as they may been the major factor on your Spitting when welding

hi matey, have a look if you can on helicoil sizes, i.e m8 would at a guess say drill 8.5mm and tap maybe 10mm, the helicoil would then be inserted in to the 10mm hole giving you then 8mm thread,

have you priced up a used carrier matey? big of a doggy area on brakes i would be tempted to go for a decent used one instead of reparing it and crossing fingers it wouldnt fail and jam your wheel at 70mph although helicoils are very srtong we do use them at work quite often, good luck :)

Is it only a carrier on them, I can't remember cause the audi a3 is whole hub,

Are they not cast iron so welding could be a problem...

Theres a place near me called nero in barking vw/audi breakers, if u cant find used I could get one and send it to u.

Only reason I mentioned a3 is there similar to golf and had a similar issue in garage the other week last person had pulled thread out and had bolt just pushed in whole,

They have no carrier so replaced whole hub, got it from nero.

I wouldn't mess around with the brakes with heli coils etc if it is just a carrier should be cheap...

Yeah zinc coating is hard to work with I normally take the coating off and it's alright. My main issue is knowing what settings to use. The owner of the welder is going to show me when he's next back but that's not for a while.

Already had a look on their website and it's not very specific but i've been around the local places but the no joy they are all to slim. I need to stick a 10mm drill bit through to clean it up properly so need something pretty hefty to stick back in. Cheers

Yeah it's exactly like that which is why I was reluctant to go the new carrier route as i've never dealt with that before so I think im going to take it to my friends garage and let him deal with it. What did the carrier cost you for that A3?

Edit: When I say carrier im referring to the hub

The reception sorted price can find out tomorrow,

Wouldn't of thought its that bad probley 60/70quid.

If its cast iron, didn't take much notice when looking at it dont think it gonna be welded mate..

Agreed, im over that idea now along with helicoils, just going to call the garage in the morning and hand it over. Cheers for all the input guys

in all fairness you will be able to helicoil it if its the hub, is it a decent depth hole? you wont weld cast im afraid not unless your a specialist welder, but safety is your best bet matey expecially in the brake side of things where there is a lot of stress and shear forces involved.

It's about 10mm thick where the bolt threads through and yeah I didn't take into account it being cast. The way I see it the bolt doesn't have any 'pull' on it during braking there's just force acting on it perpendicular to the way it sits, the thread is just there to keep it there. I know my limit and it's beyond my ability to sort now so im giving someone who knows their stuff a buzz in the morning to arrange for them to sort it out. Right pain in the ass, should have been an hour or so job! :death:
