I need a part worn (for me old BMW 728i, not a Zed).

Aren't most (higher speed rating) tyres directional? Most look asymetric too.

Does that mean I need a specific nearside or offside fitment?

Aysemetric like p zeros can run both ways but you do have an inside edge as the compound is different across its face. So the tread pattern is opposite on each side

Yes make sure the tyre monkey fits the tyre with the words "outside" on the outside edge of the wheel. Can't believe how many times they get it wrong

As above - some high performance tyres are directional and some are simply "inside or outside" - as with Continental tyres like many German cars have fitted as standard....

Directional tyres will usually have little arrows to indicate the direction of rotation; whilst others have "outside" embossed on the tyre wall!
