......I've just been reading Classic & Sports Car mag and Rowan Atkinson has done in interview about how pleased he is to have his beloved MacLaren F1 back after 16 months of re-building work as a result of his accident back in 2011.

And the bill.....

.....a hefty £910,000....!!!

I am sure he has smashed it up before that too! :scared:

If i remember he rear ended a metro. It drove away with a scratch and the f1 cost about 100k the fix.

i didn't work at maclaren i worked for the company that supplied all the carbon fibre for most of there cars i helped design and set up all the machines for the carbon for the slr from day one ,even went to a company callled CTS that molded all the panels for the slr

we use to do all the crash panels for the lotus elise to

was a good job for 21 years till they moved it all to china in 2010

Ahh right...! I assumed, as you live in Hants, that you may have worked at their (then?) factory in Portsmouth....

i hear it wasn't all that good working for them

Intersting.....:detective:

.....I did the tour of the Technology Centre in Woking a few years back; it was an awesome day out!! I saw the Merc SLR convertible at various stages of being hand built; walked along the trophy room; had a good look around various cars in their "museum" including a couple of F1s - and many of their past masters from the track, saw Lewis Hamilton's car (then) being prepped for the German GP and finished with a formal 4 course lunch in Ron Denis's dining room!!

McClaren moved out of Portsmouth a few years ago after only a short period of occupation a bespoke facility to build the chassis and bodies of the SLR and MP4-c. As all cars were finally assembled at the technology centre they finally built a dedicated sports car factory alongside the F1 premises.

As for Rowan Atkinson, he may have trouble handling his F1 but he's no slouch when it comes to throwing his Mkiv jag around Goodwood

can't see how they charged that much for the slr as most off the panels was made by the polish i chatted to most of them and they hated them lol think its because they was all on min wage

Steve, was the company i worked for moved to china not maclaren ,not sure where they get there carbon fabric from now

i hear it wasn't all that good working for them

Yeah, Its a high pressure, fast paced industry, especially for the factory floor workers where they have a thousand other applicants all eager to do your job.

....but its also one of the most rewarding sectors to work in, especially for the high skilled sectors like engineering, which is why the UK is the home of Motorsport.

i saw mr bean driving his f1 on the m40 sitting at 70mph all the way, my dream car but would have it in a different colour :taz:
