fuse box acces

My main beams keep turning themselves on when the car hasn't moved.

My neighbour has just texted me to say they are on even through they were not on when i left for work.

Last time it happened i thought the light fuse had gone but when i checked it it was fine and taking it out then putting it back in again fixed the

I think i might have a small leak on my divers side tagra our door rubber somewhere as occasionally i get a few dips come out of one of my a pillar gauges. This makes me think that there might be some corrosion on the back of my fuse box.

How do i access it to give it a good clean up?

best and first thing you do is remove the drivers seat, its just 2 x 14mm bolts at the front, 2 x 14mm nuts at the rear and the cable for the electric parts of the seat if they are electric, dont lose the washers on the rear, remove the seat, now remove the plastic kick plate along the bottom of the door entrance, remove the screws holding the plastic cover over the fuse box and wiggle free, now your biggest enemy is going to be the acceleration pedal and break pedal, but there are 4 iirc, screws holding the fuse box in place and a load of connectors, you dont have to worry about what connector goes where, as they are pretty much all different fits, there is also 2 on the back of the fuse box that need unplugging.

The fuse box its self has metal tracts inside it, that fit like some sort of fancy Rubik cube, (would make a decent game at JAE lol) so when taking it apart, make sure all fuses are out of it, make sure all relays on the back are removed, or you will struggle to get it apart. give it a good clean and dry out, while the fuse box is out, check to see if the targa drain is connected, if it is, then (even though you have given the hint) you are getting water ingress in the same area as me, and it is coming down the A pillar, you might find it will be a good idea to drill a very tiny hole directly under the first gauge on the A pillar, to help drain water out of here once is collected.

Eck these targa topped Z's do cause a lot of problems, hope you get it sorted bud :detective:.

worth it to have the roof off in the summer though and not be in a sweat box :tt2:

What you tryin to say.......I'm a fat lad :whistling:.

Not having a go, just stating that it's very often I read that it's the drains that contribute to a lot of electrical issues members have, seems it needs addressing very early on in a new targa Z's ownership :cool3:.

think its more to the point they seem to be one of those "forgotten area's" of maintenance and people expect them to last till eternity. pretty much like gearbox oil that gets over looked on maintenance.

Cheers guys, got home battery is dead and drivers floor is wet :(

Hoping my mechanic mate can sort this out for me next week, I think it would take me a lot longer to do and I won't even have more than a few hours to think about doing it for at least 3 weeks! The joys of working 6 days a week and having a toddler to play with the rest of the time.

As Vods said it is a forgotten area but has been on my list to sort. It has been a long road sorting out bits over the last year as the previous owner told me "I brought it cos it looked flash!" So general maintenance wasn't the best.

Just given her a jump start and let it idle up to temp.

I turned on the blowers to full to dry out some of the condensation etc as I have not used it for a few weeks while we had the snow. I wasn't getting any warmth from the heaters but the fans are working well. So could it be the heater matrix that has caused the wetness or would that be cause by the wet fuse box?

Could be the matrix. Get your hand up and at the back of your pedals and check that water isn't tracking along the ducts.

I've had this a couple of times, once it was really really cold and the other time it was after a period of inactivity, I'd start it up and I know I should be getting some warm air after 5 mins of driving but was not getting any at all, the engine temp would go beyond what it should settle at so I am just starting to think about turning off then suddenly I get warm air and the engine temp returns to normal ?

My thermostat was changed way less than 5,000 miles ago and am sure I've had enough anti freeze in :confused1:.
