I have bought a DVD burner to put in my PC but the cables are bloody different so stuck now! Unless its like for like then I dont have a clue!

 

I will post up some pics now of what I mean but basically the DVD burner I want to install has SATA 'ports' on the back and the cables that I already have in my pc are not compatible! :( Help would be great if possible.

Sure you can get a convertor to go from SATA to USB bud :thumbup1:

Top left is a picture of the cables that were in the back of my old dvd burner.

Top right is the back of my new dvd burner (tthat the old cables wont fit into)

Bottom left is the inside of my pc

Bottom right is another pc I could install it into if I needed a different motherboard etc)

you have 2 options

 

 

Build a new pc or buy an IDE dvd burner

 

 

 

Sorry Scrap that i see two Sata ports there just left of the cmos batt

 

get your self a Sata Lead and a 4pin molex connector to sata power

Yeah its an old one that I only use for my work, AutoCad and burning films etc. An IDE burner it is then I reckon.

Can you let me know where they go? Bottom left PC or bottom right PC ? (the bottom left is the one I would rather use but dont have too)

there are 2 small black plugs left of the cmos bat ( watch bat ) thats the silver round thing on the left in left pic

 

the Red new lead will plug in to one of them then gos to the smaller right socket on the dvd burner in right pic

the Gender change lead with the 4 pin white plug will just plug in to a free power plug and then to the

larger left socket on the dvd burner in right pic
