Help from automatic owners

Hi folks

Just a quick question to help me track down the source of my gear stick problems!

Can you shift out of the park setting with the engine running but the drivers door open?

Probably a really dumb question but I'm struggling to find out why the shift lock on my car isn't releasing when I put my foot on the break.

Cheers

John

there is an Over ride leaver if this helps u to move the car ..

on the down bar of the leaver there is a Red slider if u push it down u can move the selector leaver in to R/D

I've been using the over ride button to move it till now.

What it is is that after my car got broken into, I fixed the smashed ignition barrel but now the parking lock on the gear selector won't come off when I press the brake down. They smashed up the drivers side door lock to get access, and the car seems to think the door is open all the time. I wondered if the two things were linked.

the gear release (little red bar button type thing on the gear selector) is a Jap spec only device, there is also a extra bit on the ignition barrel to stop you removing the key unless its in the park position on the gear selector, they most likely have destroyed that switch on the ignition barrel, there is no link as far as im am aware on the zed that relates the door open to the function of the gears.

That's cool, just wanted to rule it out.

I have a totally new ignition barrel, and I gave the gear selector a good check over and it works fine, its just the park lock doesn't disengage like it should. I'm thinking it must be the wiring for it, as I think the cable runs from the gear selector -> brake pedal -> ignition barrel from what I can tell. I think it has it's own fuse for the solenoid one the gear stick so I'll check that.

I dont have an original gear knob, but i have to press a button down (on the gear knob) to get it out of park.
