Normally Im the only bloke in my house but my grown up daughter Louise is back living with me and has "persuaded " me to say "yes " to an addition to the household:yes:

So here he is.......

His name is Kane and he is 7 years old.

Kane is an ex racing greyhound who has now retired after a long and hard racing career. We fetched him today from the Retired Greyhound Trust near Newark. In his career he was based at Nottingham dog racing track although like many racing hounds he was born and bred in Ireland

Now he is lying on my lounge carpet at the end of his first day in a house. Its difficult to say who is more worn out Louise and me or Kane.

Anyway here is a pic.

He is a very handsome boy indeed.

Stuffed bunny tied to the back of the zed should do the trick !!!!! Lol

Good idea. although he is probably faster to 40 than many drivers on this forum!!!

He will do 0 to 40mph(approx) in about 3 secs. (Or he did do at the peak of his career.) Not sure how fast he is now. I need to find some private fenced space on a farm etc to let him off the lead.

they really do make great pets, been involved in greyhound racing all my life. Really are good dogs and yours looks a cracker!!

My in laws have always took on ex racing greyhounds and they have alays been brilliant dogs. Normally very healthy and well behaved as they have been cared for exceptionally. just hope you like long walks as they take a lot of tiring!

What a handsome chap! We've had three retired greyhounds in our family over the last few years and they make great pets. They're lazy as anything during the day and don't need as much exercise as one would expect, having said that our Barton loves a long walk. Do you know Kane's proper racing name Pete, as I go on here to see our pets racing history, mum and dad (cough, Sire and Dame), etc.:

Any Jack and Rockbarton Champ are the names of two of ours. Unfortunately we never know Nosey's racing name so couldn't look it up. It was supposed to be something like Cooglamora Agfo, but that comes back with no results.

We found that it's best to go for a dog that's been retired for a few months, because some of them can be a little aggressive if they've been mistreated during their racing career, and need time to unwind in a domestic environment.

He's a handsome chap Pete. I bet when I was a kid I could outrun him. I used to get loads of practice when I went fishing at my old local river. The best spots tended to be at the bottom of posh folks gardens, so I had to be able to leg it at a moments notice with all my tackle when the owners released the hounds. Was like Billy Whiz in them days...lol

Thank you all for your kind responses..

We will be getting his papers and history in a few days. So will know his racing name etc.

He slept well in his bed in the kitchen and seems to be making a start on settling in.

Louise loves him to bits already and has been in charge of "walks" today, which went well.

He was alone with me most of the day and after an hour of following me in and out of the garage/workshop etc he decided to go back to bed about 11.00am this morning to catch up on some ZZZZs............................

see pic.

they make great pets, i was brought up racing greyhounds with my dad (the dogs raced not us lol) he has 5 i think now, one retired and the others racing

you can go on greyhound data and enter its earmarks into the system to see its form, but only if its ran ngrc and not just flapping tracks, should have tattoos on the inside of its ears

we used to have a starter motor put in a frame with a spool on it, me and my sis used to walk the dog and drag the rope with the hare on and my dad used to fire the starter motor up and let the dog chase it, great exercise but be carefull letting it off the lead, if they bolt away it will take some catching lol

Cheers mate. He is double tatooed.

I plan to find a "safe" field to let him off once he gets to know us better.
