Brake master cylinder, new or rebuild kit?

Another one of the jobs on my list this winter is the master cylinder, do you suggest buying new or getting new inners? Is this a straight forward job I can do myself?

    I have really bad brakes, fade like hell, and the pedal is extremely squidgy, pedal goes all the way to the floor very easily. I am hoping discs, pads, braded lines and a new master cylinder will help.
