You don't need electrician. Change that black box inside drivers side door and you'll be ok

Lol @ Kev.

It'll either be the switch itself or the little black box inside the door - You'll just need to whip the door card off. It only takes 5 minutes pal.

Im not available on Saturday but might be around boro on Sunday. Out of interest, does your passenger window work?

Serious question, if both windows worked before the doors were changed then a couple of wires may be damaged. if not it will be the black boxes..

Hi Stevie if free and weather Okay lets get together mate as my car back on road from zedworld but lazy lifter doing my head in sounds like a clock lol ,but car goes of the speedo when I floor it now.

Get the black box out of one and open up. Have a look at the soldering and look for any dry joints. common problem..

Some fresh solder and normally all okay.

strange if they were working and not anymore. If the boxes dont cure it its get the meter out time...

In the words of scotty - she's gonna blow captain haha.

Me and neen are good thanks mate.

Right, a couple of things to check (as daft as they sound!!!)

1 - have you knocked the window lock button, this happens all the time lol.

2 - not sure if you have electric seats or not but if they aren't working too, check the fuse - its on the little fuse box at the back of the engine bay.

3 - try holding the butting down and hitting the inside of the drivers door, that might show its the box. To fix the box here is a write up jeffTT did one time, pretty good I think, or it might be the relay...

Drivers side window issues? the window power amp controller has a habit of failing leading to an intermittent or non working window, lucky it is a very easy fix and free to boot if you can use a soldering iron.

The unit in question is fitted in the drivers door, it is held in place with a single 10m bolt and has one 8 way connector plugged in to it, roughly just off central towards the rear of the door.

Once removed the outer case needs easing off the lower connector area, the internal part then slides out in one piece.

Photo 1 shows the internal parts of the unit and the pcb its all mounted on removed from the outer case, the two relays to the left are the output up and down for the window motor and the steel busbars to the right are the connection interface to the door wiring loom and the source of the problems.

Photo 2 shows the unit end up where the connector goes in and again the source of most issues the unit suffers from.

Photo 3 shows the rear of the pcb and the area in red is where the connector busbars are soldered to, not easy to see the problem yet.

P7120008.jpg

Photo 4 shows the problem in clearer detail, the pin solder has failed and this is the cause of the intermittent or no connection and the failed window operation.

P7120012.jpg

Photo 5 shows the method of repair, by applying a soldering iron to the effect area the solder will reflow and make a new connection.

Photo 6 shows the final result, a nice solid connection that will get that window operating again, just put the unit back together and refit to the door.

Happy fixing
