Hi All

Been a while since I've been on here...perhaps a testament to how well the Zed has been running! lol

I have a rough running issue which I believe to be related to cylinder 6.

I've checked CAS, PTU, injectors are ticking, checked all connections around the engine bay etc. I'm thinking it may be something to do with the coil pack or the spark plug....

...however, I don't have the tools or know how to go much further. I've just moved house too so don't know anyone local that might be able to assist. So does anyone on here know of anyone in the locale or Croydon / South London that might be able to?

Thanks in anticipation!

Vig

Hello mate,

If you're ever in NW London, I'll gladly swap the coilpacks/plugs over for you.

Hey mate

Cheers for the offer!

Possibly a silly question but if it was one of those that is the issue, would driving on 5 cylinders be ok? It sounds awful but it does drive...

Cheers

I've just had a load of problems with spark plugs. Real easy to sort out. With the engine running unplug the coil packs, one by one and listen to see if the engine note changes. If the note changes as you unplug, both the coil pack and plug are good. If there is no change, then either the plug or coil pack are at fault.

Then, presuming there is at least one cylinder at fault, turn the engine off and just swap the coilpack with a known good one (two 12mm bolts). Then start engine and check the two swapped cylinders again. If the faulty cylinder has moved, the problem lies in the coil pack. If it hasn't moved, most probably the plug.

Coil packs 5 & 6 require you to remove the balance bar, again really easy. Just unbolt all visable bolts, remove the two pipes on the back and lift out. On my car (lwb jap tt) coil pack number 5 takes a little wiggle to get out, I think there is a pipe or some wiring in the way, but it will come out.

As for running as it is, don't know if it will hurt engine, but I wouldn't do it!!!!

Hope this helps mate.

Exactly what he said!! lol

Could easily be as simply as the coilpack connector has worked loose (if the clips are broken).

Thanks guys - I don't have internet at home yet as just moved house so wasn't able to search the forums on how to remove the coilpacks so thanks evilanger!

I think I can manage to remove the coil packs then and test them out as I've already gotten as far as deducing it's with the plug or the pack.

Hopefully be able to sort it myself then (unless it's the plug in which case I'll need a plug tool I think!)

Thanks again, much appreciated!

I'm over in Sidcup if you need any tools I've got almost every tool under the sun!!! Lol, im not a mechanic but ive got a bit of know how and I'm sure we could come up with something between us

njmworsley - cheers for the offer bud. Sounds like it might be a bad idea driving as it is so might have to give it a miss this time but appreciate the offer! I'm sure I'll need to take you up on it in the future!! haha

securicar - good to know thanks! Whereabouts in Croydon are you? From the sounds of things I may well be ok for the time being (I've also just ordered a spark plug tool) but be good keep you in mind for future jobs. Still need to sort out a few electrical bits on the car!
