can you install new main and big end bearings in-situ?

    Not really a viable option. The engine is mounted to the suspension cross brace/subframe and the frame is in the way to remove the sump... You could hold the weight of the engine from above and drop the suspension I suppose but this would be about the same as removing the engine...
