Air intake - ECU reset?

Hi all,

Just had a Stillen intake fitted - I seem to remember seeing a long time ago that you should do something with the battery to re-caliberate the ECU when you are increasing air flow.

Is this right? If so, what do I do?

Thanks,

Andy

Hello Andy,

Just diconnect you battery for at least 1/2 hour (leave it for more if you can).

Vijay

Many thanks - what does it actually do. Does it do something the next time you start the car up?

Cheers,

Andy

Hello Andy,

Basically your ecu will now learn new air mixtures etc (I think lol).

Vijay

Like Vijay said, disconnect the battery for as long as you can (although the concensus is that a minimum of 30 minutes is required). The ECU will then be reset and will now need to "learn" all the new settings - this may take upto 200 miles to take effect.

Just my 2p worth.

Cheers,

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi all,

I've done this now and it's made a significant difference.

The turbo now starts to come in as soon as I put my foot on the accelerator. It used to do nothing until about 3000 RPM when it would suddenly come in. Why has this happened?

How do others turbos behave? I'm wondering if mine was wrong all along?

Cheers,

Andy

Someone must be able to tell me when their turbo comes in, I just want to know whether I've cocked something up or not!?

Andy

i think stock blowers are on full boost by 3000rpm.7psi?

(i think)

Thanks - under normal acceleration the needle goes to 0 more or less precisely. Foot down a bit and it shoots straight to the top.

barbel, just for your info, I cleaned out my throttle bodies last weekend but disconnected the -ve battery terminal before hand (I can tell you though - the amount of 'crap' that comes out whilst your cleaning the throttle bodies is amazing..), anyway, as of today - the zed is still idling at around 1300rpm ('tis usually around 900 rpm as you know). it will do this until about (as mentioned) 200 miles or so.

rock_star. The same thing happened to our zed after I cleaned the TB's, it didnt get any better as time went on. You might have to adjust the idle air adjust vavle screw is opposite the battery on the back of the plenum and thus is a bastard to fit a decent size screwdriver into wink.gif.

Oh and ur zed should be idling closer to 700-750rpm at working temperature with a/c off, 900 seems a bit high?

no no no no no. The high idle is not usually caused by having to adjust the idle screw! It is caused because all the sh1t that comes out from the throttle bodies washes to the back of the plenum and clogs up the idle valve assy, making it stick. Pull the rubber pipe off that and squirt a good dose of carb cleaner in there to free it up...
