Not totally convinced it's a good move. It's hard to deny the impact the Ross Brawn has had on F1 over the years, the the current Mercedes car/team isn't there when up against McLaren, Ferrari & Red Bull.

It's blatantly a money-move. Why else would he leave Mclaren to go to a team that so far, has proven to be not as good?

Good signing for Mclaren to bring in Perez though. Surprised a bigger team hasnt snapped up Di Resta yet!

I don't think it's about money, those guys have more than they know what to do with anyway. Mercedes have sold him a promise that next years car is going to be a winner, presumably he hasn't got the same confidence from McLaren.

I think this season has onocked the nail in mclarens coffin, the car isnt a title winning car, he wants another championship win and mclaren cant give him a car to do that, I dont think he is ungratefull and I dont think its all just about the money (although I bet it did help lol)

Hamilton and McLaren have always been a team it will just be odd seeing him drive for another team. This season he was let down by bad team decisions and pit stop errors and that has frustrated him in his quest to be champion again. So I hope Mercedes have a great car for next season as he does not want to be passed by Button and Perez in a McLaren.

So where is Schumacher going?

To be honest Hamilton was let down in his first year by McLaren by many of the same errors - he really, really should have been world champion in that year. Given that he is clearly one of the most talented drivers and has for the most part had a seriously competitive car, he really ought to be on his third world championship by now.

Schumacher will be retiring, or will be working in an "advisory" capacity for someone I expect. Perhaps Ferrari ....

sad to see him go, but i support the team not the drivers, though British winning driver is always a plus, mclaren this year have been a bit off the pace, botched pit stops, car reliability, shame really

Definately only went for the money! They have looked after him since he was about 13 years old. No loyalty in any sport these days now :(

he has shown lots of loyalty, and dont believe he left just for the moiney, they have made a lot more money back on him than they have made for him

he has looked to the future, when mclaren lose the mercedes engine they will be struggling, mercedes wont, he wants to win and mclaren cant offer him a winning car

You will know if it was about the money if you see him start appearing in product advertisements from next year.

The wages offer was fairly similar, its the personal sponsorship deals that will bring the extra cash.

As mclaren already have decent longstanding relationships with lots of firms particularly hugo boss, then the drivers have to do what is asked for those sponsors, but they only allow a single personal sponsor deal for their drivers.

The engine issue is a possible reason, but i doubt mclaren will be a slouch with another engine, they will still have a quality supplier.

He has made just as many errors over the season as the team has, but he has definitely been unlucky over the years.

Not sure why anyone is saying about the cash, if someone offered me more cash to do the same job else where, in this day an age id jump at the change, and anyone who says they wouldnt, needs to get there head tested.

I think he's in a different league to that though personally. We would do it to change our quality of life, provide for our kids and have better toys! However, I don't think there's much that Hamilton wants or needs that this wage change would affect?

LOL!! it is funny to read/hear all of the comments about Hamiltons move, I think people need to get a grip!!

At the end of the day he will do what he considers is best for himself, same as most people would & should do IMO. Just because he has been part of a team for some time now doesnt mean he should never leave does it?!

If he gets a better offer, financially or perhaps for a better promised car then why would he not take it? I would!!

I am sure it is something he thought long & hard about and am sure he has had many other offers over the years! Lets face it, like him or hate him he must be one of the most sought after drivers in F1

If he wasnt the sort of person that strived to have the very best deal offered to him then he probably wouldnt be where he is today IMO.

Good luck to him (and McLaren for that matter) I say - he is in demand & making the most of it.

He's been messed about by Mclaren for a couple of years, underperforming cars and stupid pit stop and race tactics mistakes. Ive heard both teams offered him the same contract but he just wanted a change.

I think Mclaren have chose a top driver to replace him as well.

Perez is going to be very quick next season with a McLaren drive he will keep Jenson on his toes:biggrin:
