Hunting idle

Right this is now starting to Pee me off, at JAE car was idling smooth as day, jaikai got the old consults out and found my TPS was set at 0.38, anyway groover got on and changed the TPS to 0.44 and went to set the idle, at this point it looked as though my IACV was faulty as it wasnt changing something (cant remember what now) when it was being set. anyway, finally got it to play ball / do something it was supposed to and the idle was set, but as we were running out of day light, we gave up with the now hunting idle.

So today i thought id tackle the issue and swap the IACV over from the blue zed, well all was fine for around 10mins, then it started doing it again so now im at a loss.

Video shows it from cold, it gets progressively worse over time until its bouncing from 500rpm to 1.5k rpm, would a stuck Air regulator cause this? EGR has been deleted, no boost leaks / vac leaks, new ECU temp senor + plug, changed the Idle air control valve, checked the TPS tonight (set at 0.44v) O2 sensors are unplugged as one failed.

I guess you have checked the timing with a light? and done all the connector cleans..

yep, although i still would benefit from swapping my entire wiring loom over from my blue zed onto the black one as its a new one with nice fresh connectors, i also did the timing as i swapped my polished CAS unit over, ECU temp sensor also has a new plug and sensor, the idle was fine after setting all that, it was once the TP setting was changed that it started, ive even tried setting it back to where it was, but no joy.

I do how ever think i need to adjust the idle again as when i unplug the AAC the car doesnt idle at all and just stalls out but this is a new development since changing the IACV over

well then I agree with your diagnosis on it being the IACV .... could take a bit more playing around...

if it still won't work I guess go back over everything to rule stuff out again... lol...

good luck.. :)

im thinking more the Air regulator now, though not sure that would cause a wondering idle if its playing up.

I've got a spare air reg that is damaged but might still have some good part if you want it... (FOC)

Ive got a fully working one attached to my blue zed still, thanks for the offer though. shame its been raining like a good un for the past 2 days, havent been able to get down and do anything else at the moment.

LOL.. I wish I had a nice big garage as well... :)

was thinking of getting a gazebo, though found out who ever fitted these new targa seals and door rubbers didn't do a very good job, just had to brave the weather on my lunch to see if i can sort it out as i had a wet ass by the time i got to my first job of the day, not good lol

Its leaking at the edges of the join between the targa panel its self and the door rubbers. also found out i have a blocked rear drivers side targa drain, anyone got any tips for cleaning that, that doesnt involve cans of compressed air to blow the pipe off lol

m8 i know youv had trouble wih the radiator n temp before just throwing this out theyr but might be an airlock issue rather than tps ..experianced this befor with the h22 engine..iknow its a honda engine but a air lock in the air/cooling system can cause that symptom

could try at a service station... use the type pump...

that is a good point... I always put mine on a steep incline to get all the air out..

different car now bud lol, its defo not an airlock this time.

this is the short run down

got the car

replaced ECU temp sender and ECU temp sender plug with new

Plugged up recirc holes

car was running smooth on idle all the time

took car to JAE

Jaikai did consults and noticed the TPS was read 0.38v

groover adjusted TPS to 0.44v

idle was then at around 1100rpm

Groover then removed plug off of Idle air control valve and set idle to 600rpm

Plug was then put back on to Idle air control valve, engine stabilized as the ECU took over at 750rpm

5mins later idle was erratic, bouncing from 500 to 1500rpm and not settling

This week i changed the IACV over for the known working one off of my blue one (one i had the radiator and temp issues with) and cleaned plug connectors

Plugged connector into IACV and reset the ECU, idle was fine for around 10mins idling at 800rpm

10mins later idle now bouncing from 750 RPM to 1100 RPM

So back to square one.

mmmmmmmmmmmm maybe just maybe the working aicv isnt really working..thats all iv got sorry ian

its off my blue one so i know it was definately working before i took it off, other wise i wouldnt of bothered and just used the spare unknown i seem to have sitting in a cupboard under the sink  lol

still havent had a change to Air regulator over yet as had monsoon rains today hopefully it will be a bit drier at the weekend before i head off to santapod.

changing the TPS wouldnt have nackered a resistor somewhere would it? Gutt feeling is this isnt the IAC valve mate. I've had them go before, and the bouncing is more sudden/sharp than the bounce you appear to be getting. This looks like your ecu compensating, then not compensating and so on. was it doing this when you had it mapped by RGS?

dyno'd even

It certainly was doing this when it was dyno'ed.

Well the Air regulator regulates the Air from cold, it opens a little shutter that then slowly closes as the engine warms up, hence the reason from cold start it idles higher, im just wondering if its not closing correctly and causing the idle issues ive got.
