jumpy rev needle at neutral

im bored so i thought id ask a question about something i noticed on my car a while ago

whilst driving my auto car, when i pop the gear lever into neutral at any speed the rev counter needle seems to have a mind of its own,it can jump a 1000 revs up and down in a split second.

is this normal?

i only noticed it one day when i was coasting down a hill/bank

now bfr ya say,i know this is not good for the car and it aint a regular thing i do to save petrol

ive never thought id got a problem its more just a curiosity that it doesnt seem right?

cheers for any replies if ya bored too

Sounds like a sticking FICD valve assy maybe.... Sounds to me like you could be spending an afternoon removing all that sh1t from the rear passenger side of the plenum and giving it a good ole clean out!!!

wat the foook is the ficd valve?

do u think it could have something to do with the gurgle noise you heard ,when we went for that spin ?

FICD = Fast Idle Control Device

No I don't think the two are connected. Although I suppose its a posibility if it is mild detting that you are hearing....

It is located on the back passenger side of the plenum and is the thing which makes the revs go up as you put the air con on etc...
