My car came with some tasty mods, but there is no paper work on engine internals, over the weekend I took groover out in the zed, now I've been running it with the boost controller off (9psi) but thought I'd try it with the boost controller set at the low setting on my boost controller, it went over 14 psi, I don't really want to kill my engine so I haven't even bothered trying it on the high setting as I just don't know what engine parts are in it.

Anyway these are the mods my car defiantly has

Gt525 turbos

Jwt chip for 555 injectors

555 injectors

Hks air filter

Decat exhaust

Z1 side mount intercoolers

Z1 dump valves

Z1 oil cooler

Engine internals unknown if they are stock or not so I'm presuming they are stock

EGT is also impacted by timing so still a useful tool

Cheers guys

Just out of interest is there any better degree of accuracy running them closer to the turbo?

Would you say AFR monitoring has replaced EGT monitoring or is there still a use for it? I've never fully understood the point of EGT.

Leaner the engine hotter the engine/exhaust EGT is a good tool ... but i would say AFR is way more needed ... and they recommend the sensor to be arounf 10">12" away from the main header ... in all turbo aps this is no problem my Down pipes have the sensors just before the main exhaust flange

Peak EGT occurs at a stoichiometric burn (14.7:1 AFR). At this point, both running richer or leaner decreases EGT to a point. At a constant AFR, advancing timing reduces EGT, retarding timing increases EGT. Detonation also reduces EGTs, whilst the cylinder head temps rocket. EGTs by themselves aren't really that important IMO, there are too many variables; it's the changes that can tell you something, eg. a sharp reduction in previously observed EGTs at a given AFR indicating the onset of detonation.

I personally don't use EGT gauges, but they do have their uses.
