Loud clicking noise when first starting car

Car is currently sufering weird starting issues. Every time I go to start the car, disarm the alarm, turn the ignition on, wait a few seconds, turn it further and the car takes about ten seconds to start whilst making this really anoying (loud) clicking noise. The sound seems to be coming from behind the dash. Any one else had this problem and might know what it could be?

Sounds like maybe the fuel pump relay - that is located behind the dash and would also explain the long time to start...

Cheers for the reply. Is this something that is cheap & easy to do. When I start the car, I usualy turn the key a few notches and let all the lights come on and the whirring noises stop etc (the fuel pump) then turn the ignition fully. Do you think this may still be the relay? Is this the kind of thing I can get in any car accessory shop. Cheers in advance for any help!

I've heard the same when the battery is going flat and theres not enought current to engage the starter.

Had a look last night behind the panel just below the steering wheel. Is this relay actualy inside the dash?
