I went with a friend to buy an E46 M3 the other day and it hasnt half rekindled my love for the blue and white roundel.

Its always been my game plan to have an E39 M5 someday, I'm just begining to think that "someday" might be "soonday".

Argh dont know what to do about my zed, if I sell it i'll probably regret it but then again it is getting to be a right pain in the backside having two two seater vehicles!

I love the way my slicktop looks and drives but its the longest i've ever had a car (despite probably doing the least miles in it of any car!) and I think i'm just getting ready for a change?

E39 M5 all the way, performance bargain now too!

Your not kidding...! Thats half the trouble is that they are just so attractivly priced - I do miss my old M3 at times, especially now my mate has his its just awesome. I spent an hour on the phone with him tonight, hes come from a mixture of clio 172/182/197 and a very nice evo 6 and hes wax lyrical about the M3. Exactly what he couldnt believe, is exactly what I miss the most. The incredible throttle response where as anything turbo charged just seems a bit soft on the power delivery!

I only done 1200 miles between mots bud

About the same for me, its not the lack of use I do often feel I cant use it though because I dont want to leave it places It might get damaged or I can use it because if i'm going somewhere I end up in someon elses car as ive no seats hehe. Yours is a different kettle of fish though!

Great, quick cars but just look boring and just another car imo, I much prefer the zeds rarity and road presence , just have both :)

I wish that was an option! Insurance the biggest issue if truth be told, closely followed by lack of money to own both lol then lack of space to store them then the fact that I'm supposed to be finishing my house... !

You only live once mate, go wild. I'm in the market for a 740i and a Range Rover for the winter.... and my zed is going no where

I got an e39 M5 18 months ago and don't regret, yes it can be expensive to run parts are pricey but it is an epic car, fast, comfortable stacks of toys etc, I kept the zed in the mean time as a weekend car but sold it last week, replaced it with a e36 m3 convertible for the weekend toy. Do I miss my zed? I do and I don't, had it 10 years and had some great times with it, but just had the urge for a change and always loved the e36 and fancied a proper ragtop this time. Just buy the best example M5 you can afford, the sub 3k ebay cheapies are wrecks and riddled with expensive faults from what I've seen.

i was thinking about an m5 a while ago. but what has been said already. yes they are great cars to drive. they look a bit dull now and are looking very dated. especially the m3. i see them as chav wagons now.

I also dont find them exciteing to drive. . they have a job to do and they do it well there pritty dull imo just like the Germans.:lol: to serious if you like.

Turbo car has a soft delivery??? its the other way around:lol:

Hehe both considerations I'll be honest looked at both. Dad had an E38 for many years and it was a brilliant car, in many ways he prefered it to the E65.

put a tidy zed next to an m5 in a car park, and the choice is clear. nobody will be looking at the m5.

Maybe not I've had a few years of people looking at my though time for a bit more understated performance perhaps?? :)

Ah I was hoping you might reply! The M5 will be my weekend toy as I have a van that I use through the week. Was looking at between 7 and 8k or so, fairly low in the market but there are some genuinely nice ones that pop up in that price range. What sort of milage have you got on yours now? I'm expecting it to be about the same as the zed knocking about and slightly worse on a run on fuel is that what you found?

Which model of M3 and M5's do you think are chavy? A good NA's throttle response its awesome anything turbo just has the moment of lag that drives me mad

Get the Zed sold Chris, it's not even nice

Helpful as ever footmunch ;) hehe. I see what your doing their reverse physcology!

you should only have about 1 sec of lag in the right gear. I like the M5 E39 is it but there looking old. I hate the E36 M3 but love the E46

7-8k is a good price range, sub 5k are dogs, 9k plus are ambitious, mines just clocked 151k miles full BMWSH, it was a directors car originally and has very little wear and tear, back seats are pretty much the day they left the factory, I specifically went with one that had a good unworn interior and didn't mind a few stone chips here and there as it's much easier to fix paint than source good condition interior panels. At this age it's always good to go on condtion, I looked at much lower mileage ones sub 100k that looked a lot worse for wear.

Around town it will do 300 miles per tank 20mpg, commute to work which is mainly A roads and a few urban areas 320-350 22ish mpg, motorway run at 80mph 420 miles per tank appx 27 mpg.

Mine is showing signs of a suspension refresh now, creaky suspension, wobble under hard braking etc, it will need new shocks, lower arms, and a few other suspension bits and bobs. At this age they probably all do and it won't be cheap, but I think it's well worth it.
