Revs dropping off after boost

This has been happening for a while now but want to get it sorted.

So, under normal driving te car is fine, but if you've just had your foot planted and then you put the clutch down the car's revs can drop off.

The natural thought is the idle control valve, so that's been replaced and it still happens. Any other thoughts before I come to a corner and the revs drop and put me in the hedge cos the wheel went tight lol

Sounds like they might be a bit slow closing after the throttle is closed, seen this a few times with many different makes of dump valves, even the twin psiton type ones do it, actually its a problem with any cars that run an air flow meter running atmospheric dumps, the original recircs always keep it in the system even when they are slow to respond, check see if they are adjustable, try closing them down a little, it could be just one causing the issue, you could try disconnecting the vacuum to one them to stop it operating as a test and then try the other one see if there is any difference between them

Thanks mate. I think they are on the middle of 3 settings, do you mean to try and put them on the smallest whole?

I'm not too sure what you mean by disconnecting the vacuum. Wouldn't that cause other problems?

Sounds like you have the same apexi dump valves as me, there is a nut on the top that you can turn to adjust the spring in side, the band around the side with the 3 different size holes is just for sounds nothing more, it's the adjuster nut on top jeff is on about.

I have these ones mate

Same as mine, if you look at the top of them you have the vac hose connector and next to that a nut, it's the nut you use to adjust them, the red ring with the three different size holes in, are just to change the sound when they dump.

I can't seem to move this nut at all. Which way do I need to turn it? Tighten it?

Looks pretty rusty, soak the nut with plus gas or other brand release agent then give it another go. Does the other side one move?

  • Author

Neither would move. It is the nut I turn and not the Allan bolt right?

Update on this. So, I've got the nuts off and tightened the screws down quite far. One of them sounded like I could hear the spring tightening, the other I couldn't. Could one of them be broken inside by any chance or should I just tighten some more? At the minute there's only about 2-3mm of the Allen bolt showing (without the nut on).
