More Help plz!!! Fuel pump constantly on even with no key in the ignition???

Ok, I`m finally getting to the bottom with my starting issues!!

The car wouldn't start at all tonight and it stinks of neat fuel from the exhausts

I have found that the fuel pump is pumping even with no key in the ignition!! Its making its pumping sound and also there is a hissing sound in the engine bay by the fuel pressure regulator!!

Is this normal? why is the fuel pump on all the time?

any help is appreciated

Thanks Daz

Between 9-10 will be good.

Or in the afternoon.

I have a VOSA VIC appointment on my repaired Z32 late morning.

One of the joys of using the Emerald management is that you can do away with loads of troublesome sh*t that Nisssan fitted... like fuel pumpECUs

Ok Pete, I`m sure you will be hearing from me :) I will make JAE, but its going to be a close call!!

Hi,

the pump normally goes for 5 secs on ignition to build pressure in the system to make sure injectors deliver proper amount of fuel.

Having the pump on all the time, though not a good thing, shouldn't make starting any harder other than a drain on the battery so it might crank slower.

Ok, Thanks again Jaffa :)

Just hope I get to the bottom of it soon :(

Daz, check the PTU and CAS connections are clean. When the battery is fully charged crank the engine for 10 secs with the fuel pump fuse removed. Then replace the fuse and try starting. Let us know the outcome.

Done all that just now and she started :) all the terminals were nice and clean :), But I do think it was because the power was off all night, so no pump was pumping and a nice fully charged battery :), I have found the fuel pump ECU and gonna have a look inside it, there is a way to bypass the unit for temporary measure, so at least it can get me to Zedworld Friday is they still have space

I`ve found a handy little write up on the fuel pump ECU here; http://z32.wikispaces.com/Fuel+Pump+Control+Unit

Mikey maybe check your`s mate, I`m still unsure if the TT and n/a pumps are the same??? I have conflicting information :)
