help need some advise please

Hi ,

Need some help or even advise, bought some speakers for the back of the car (JBL’s GTO 935E 300w 6”x 9”) that sounded really good in the shop. Because the original speakers had blown I thought it would be quit ease to fit these seeing every one else has.

Shock horror when I saw the small space, now I know there’s some work to be done. Because I haven’t got the time just now, I thought I would just plug the new speakers in and stick them in the corner of the boot for now, but they sound really bad in fact they sound really sh**ty.

Now that I’ve told you all this, is it because I haven’t positioned them properly or that they are 300w’s and the system I have is a standard Kenwood KDC-4080R radio/ cd player which might not have enough power or are they just sh.t speakers. They cost me about £70

Please advise!

Tony

If you have just sat the speakers on the floor then there is nothing to separate the front and back of the speakers thats your problem - they are not mounted on a board.

The sound from the front of the speaker is cancelled out by the reverse sound from the back... that's it in a simplified sort of way wink.gif

It will happen with any speaker thats not mounted properly.

Thanks mate for answering.

now i fill a lot better and will fit them in properly.

Thanks again

Tony

i suggest that u make a mdf shelf that rest where the other speakers pods are. u will get crisp sound but the shelf will have have to be really strong to get the bass out. this way u can still get the tops off and in the boot.

p.s. i had the same set of speakers, thay can take alot of power into them but the bass will have to be turned down at higher power.

they sound realy good if u use them for only mids and trebel and use a sub for the bass (thats how ihad them set up).

use MDF that is 3quarts of an inch thick if you can,

I have found with 6*9's in the past that anything less degrades the sound quality.

personally I prefer sound in the front and the sub in the rear, im not to keen on behind me noise.

I agree with Raj, thats what I did and shaped the shelf in the centre to maximise boot access. Also removed the spare wheel and mounted a platform in there for the amplifier to sit on. If you want a pic of what the shelf looks like let me know.

John - I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the shelf - I need to manufacture something to cover the install that I'm planning on building, since my car is devoid of rollerblind..

Cheers,

GZ.
