Under bonnet heat management, what do you think?

Well my car is sorted now running at 13.5psi and hasn't done anything funny in a few weeks , I love it. But, as I no longer have a knock sensor I want to be careful and know that it's always running in safe conditions.

I plan to put 3 gauges under the radio I reckon oil temperature boost and air fuel ratio. The other thing worrying me is under bonnet heat, I know it has been hot weather recently but that engine kicks out some heat! I worry about heat soak on the intercoolers which are stock, am I right to think that if I boot it about with hot intercoolers I am one step closer to knock?

What are peoples thoughts on turbo bags, exhaust heat wrap, scoops or celica GT4 style vents.

I drove on a really cold night last night and it was noticeably quicker with the crisp air, it'd be nice to have that all the time.

Thanks guys.

Under bonnet temps are always a concern as you know these engines run HOT,

Upgrading the intercoolers would be a good idea as are some of the following

Bigger oil cooler

Thick alloy radiator

Maybe heat wrap the exhaust

Some people even heat wrap intercooler piping

Vented bonnet

More open mouthed front bumper

The right coolant/water mix

All help to keep temps down other than that all you can do is monitor them with gauges

i wouldn't say these cars run hot, mine ran 82 degrees C, my pug ran at 97, and that was considered normal on a pug 406, now that is running hot.

But added cooling is defo a plus, it will still reach 82, but it will maintain the heat better on heavy usage.

As above really, thicker rad, larger inter coolers, vented bonnet, or even raised at the back, though some say that doesnt add cooling and can actually stall the air in the engine bay.

One thing i will say though, is keep the vicious fan, and replace the clutch on it, keep the fan shroud as well, make sure if you have a stock radiator, that the fan shroud is complete, also under tray, that helps keep the flow of air over the radiator also.
