Hiya,

Well - my problem is rather strange one. Few weeks ago i finally finished my importing saga (imported 300zx from Guernsey). Submitted all paperwork to DVLA, paid all the fees, etc. 15 days ago received all paperwork (V5 / tax disc / new number plate papers, etc). However - i cannot insure it as its not in database! None of the insurance companies can see it online. Even if i try to do HPI check - no such number exists!

Already wrote few mails to DVLA - they responded - we did all as we should, speak to your insurers...

the insurers access the dvla database of all car history, if the dvla, are saying they have done all they can, i would take my documents into a police station, and get them to do a police pnc check to establish what details are held on dvla. if its not on the pnc, then it will show that dvla has done something wrong. Confirm with them the VIN number and it should show all details they hold. Could be that someone has typed the wrong vin number in,

All details of insurers, and police, customs etc access details via dvla.

Cheers Stu. That's what i told them - and yet they reply:

"As stated in our previous reply, DVLA records have been updated.

The MID (motor insurance database) and the DVLA register are two separate entities. A link has been set up between the MID and the DVLA purely to enable vehicle taxing by electronic means. However, I must emphasise that the MID is not the responsibility of DVLA and we have no direct access or control over the information it holds, or the way in which it holds it.

I can only suggest that you contact your insurance company to advise them of the transfer."

Typical rubbish

You might find that it takes time for the insurance database to catch up with the DVLA database.

You should be able to just tell the insurance company the cars details though, as long as its what you say it is and have the registration number on file then all should be well.

A bit odd but my family had a landrover discovery, which for years never showed up on any databases and that. Yet one day it just appeared when doing a search.

Can't you take it to a local company that you can take the paperwork to instead? Even if it's just to get a quote

How have you managed to get a 300 on a V reg? You've given them the incorrect year of manufacture unless it is a 99 spec of course

Nope, all the paperwork i gave them states - 1994. Even on V5 is stated - Manufactured in 1994! I do not know why i have V reg ...

Any other ideas what i shoould do? What else can ia say to DVLA? After chain of emails they now just telling me to fook off (we have finished registration of your vehicle, please deal with your insurance company)

My recommendation would be to go to your nearest local DVLA office and speak to someone in person. Much harder for them to palm you off then. Plus do it quick before they are all shut down!

The v reg must be from the date of import... So tell them they f**ked up there!!!

I don't understand why you insurance company are bothered. You may be having trouble because you have a 94 car on a V plate though as your not allowed to make a car look newer than it is. That would ring alarm bells with me at work and I would potentially decline to cover due to something not being right so to speak.

Otherwise if the car wasn't coming up from a dvla search we would just do a manual search for the car.

I would suggest yet need to re-register it on the correct year plate.
