Hi everyone,

Just fitted some UK front belts to my JDM, all fitted ok with the B pillar nuts and Spacers on the bolts, however I have a problem!!!!!!!!!

The belts won't pull out when I want them too, they both are 'locked off'. Not sure where to go with this as I was told they were working fine.

Any help please guys as I had to remove my Jap belts for the spacing washers.

Cheers

The ball bearing in the bottom of the cog gets trapped if its at the wrong angle. before fitting, hold the belt housing upright and wiggle till the ball bearing is free from the cog, then fit to the body. It probably lodged itself in transit, also make sure you have the correct side for pass and drivers, as the there is a slight angle to them, so basically once freed you need the belt tensioner upright.

they have to at the perfect angle to release, is there any movement at all?

Your belts are probably fine but are just locked. You need to make sure they're totally level then you'll be able to draw the belt.

You might need to unbolt the reel and jiggle it in order to unlock the belt. When its free, pull out a good few feet and put a clip on it to stop it from reeling again.

Then bolt the reel in again. Undo the clip and the belt should reel in again without locking. Good luck

Cheers guys,

Graham, didn't realise they were handed, how do I tell?

Baz, no movement at all.

Gunnel, cheers for the advice I'll give it a whirl.

I thought they were marked, but offer them up and bolt in loosley then pull the belt, this pic might help, it shows the pass side, now look at the clear plastic section, should be facing to the rear of car

Cheers for the pic, mine are on the correct sides so must be the ball bearing thing...........nothing is bloody easy is it LOL

Ball bearing most likely trapped in the cog, loosen the bolt and give the unit a shake to move the bearing, you can see it move and how it locks, so once its loose, try to keep upright, then refit, hopefully will sort the issue. Every now and then mine still sticks, but im parked on a slight incline every night, so im fairly sure i know what my issue is lol.

That might be your problem lol, you need to get her level, before pulling the belt out.
