I've been searching for a nice set of 3 piece split rims for a good while now. I have a set in mind. New they are £4k plus so I've been keeping my eye on Japanese auctions.

Anyway, every set that comes up has some level of damage. There are a set for sale at the mo. they have minor corrosion, scratches and kerbing. One has a very small dent.

So.... Can anyone recommend anybody who can restore these wheels? I want them in 'as new' condition but I don't want to import them to find that they can't be restored. Even with the damage, they are pretty damn expensive.

Thanks

if they are proper "chrome" plate on meatal then there is no way of re doing small areas of chrome.

So you would need to look at powder coating to cover any damage ie powder coat the entire rim.

hmmmm... defo not going for powder coating. The wheels are proper chrome plate. Although the damage is in small areas, i would happily have the entire rim repaired.. if that is possible, and economical.

I found one website that claims to repair chrome wheels so i'll se what they say

They can be re chromed in all probability.

Chrome plating is an electro-chemical process. So first the item needs to be de -chromed. Anydamage rectified then it wil need to be re-chromed.

When done on an industial process like... eg original wheel manufacture. chrome towelrails. Bull bars on 4x4s etc its a relatilely cheap process but small one off jobs are different and very labour intensive.. hence much more expensive.

I would ask for a detailed report on what anyone who is offereing to "repair" chrome wheels is actually going to do.
