Gearbox weight with exhaust hangers

Hi all,

 

Done a lot of jobs today which 1 was fitting the exhaust brackets and part of the exhaust. Does anyone know what the big weight is for thats attached to the gearbox mount?

 

Ive got one bracket with out and another with..for the moment ive fitted the 1 without as it just seems like added weight i dont need.

    Its there to take the hits of a ramp or sleeping policeman rather than the gearbox lol

    Maybe ill put it back on then. I've got a bracket without the weight on and 1 with I'm wondering why? Unless they changed design over the years
