High idle, power light coming on every time the throttle is pressed slightly harder than normal, crazy no-pedal cruising! (it will go 40mph with no pedals)

This has all come on since i cleaned out the TB's and reset the ECU. It was fine before...

So what could I ahve done wrong to make the car blow up like this? I really cant understand it, and my dad isnt very impressed with my handy work tbh frown.gif

thanx

Sounds like you may need to check the setting of the TPS and double check that the throttle butterfies are still synchronised.

I'd check you actually removed the rag you used to clean them LOL wink.gif

It is possible that they are not fully cleaned and are jamming b4 they shut - do them again wink.gif Have you cleaned that idle valve yet???

I had the exact same problem on my 90NA Stage I after cleaning the throttle bodies. You may have to clean them again (using a rag or tooth brush--don't use it afterwards for teeth) then readjust the TPS (turning it counter-clockwise). It may also be necessary to reset the ECU again. I did this and my idle is back down to about 800.

You know what they say though. If it aint broke, dont fix it. wink.gif

I did many things to settle my high/erratic idle. The thing that helped most was clean airfilters and new fuel filter. Hasnt flittered once since.

I cleaned the idle valve as well with carb cleaner. Idle revs were around 1300 then followed the manual procedure to reset the tickover back to 700rpm. The idle screw head is up by the battery - you need a short screwdriver and you have to disconnect the idle valve I seem to remember or the ecu keeps interfering with the setting. Been fine ever since.

Willie

The ecu controls the idle by opening the idle valve. The idle you set with the screw is what is called the base idle. This lets enough air in for the engine to run (only just) and then the ecu lets extra air in by opening the idle valve to bring the revs up to its preset value. If you don't disconnect the idle valve before reseting the base idle, then you will be constantly fighting against the ecu and as you turn the screw to adjust it, the ecu will compensate to keep the revs constant.. if that makes sense.... biggrin.gif

Dead right Andy. Thats what I meant too! So Clarkey it could be that your ecu now thinks 1400rpm or so is idle and thats why you do 40 in top with foot off the gas. It fights to hold the setting hence the speed you can hold. You need to check your throttles are fully closing so that the idle valve can do the idling control with the ecu then re set the tickover that way. Means disconnect it and get it down to base idle so it can just bring it up from there to about 750rpm.

See the manual for full details.

I think i fixed it, i turned the idle screw clockwise a couple of turns and now it sits at 700rpm, 1000 with the a/c on, and 575 in gear with brake. Will go test it later when me dad comes back in.

oops forgot to mention, i dia an auto tanny diag and it picked up nothing, also a ECU diag picked up nothing. The coolant sensor is in a very bad state though, i think a replacement would help things a bit.
