Finally got round to changing the rear speakers today, thanks to some quality pioneer standard fit speakers arriving from MarkDerby

Reason for this thread is just to show how much deteriation stuff can have over the life of a car in general.

Baring in mind speakers live inside the car, and are "sheltered" from direct sunlight by the speaker covers, check these out. I havent done anything to them to try and make them look this bad, seriously thats how I found them, with lots of dust around them, which I can only explain as the remains of the outter speaker.

yep indeed ... speakers from 70's right up to late 90's used Foam roll edges as this was the only way they could get a better "true" sound but over time it would go hard and start flaking off untill u see what u have now

sounds good now though :D

are the front speakers you sent me standard fit too?

nope m8 . u can get them to fit behind the door card .. you will need to remove the metal shaped deflector and make some wooden oval rings about 12mm thick and then mount the hole lot on to the door

it will give u a good sound with some decent bass too

just make sure u get your live/neg the right way round as u dont want the speakers phasing each other out

Nice one Ryan....!!

It's surprising what a difference a simple upgrade makes isn't it.....?

.....I'm no ICE freak, I just replaced my rear speakers with a set of OEM-size JBLs and it sounds way better. I do need to upgrade the fronts now - what do you recommend for simple drop-in replacements Mark?

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

best you can afford 6.5" JBL/Infinity/Pioneer/sony/kenwood u get me .... just none of the cheap tat around m8

if its a nice budget u have for them try and get some two way components and mount the tweeter on the door higher

this will give u a better vocal point

Cheers Mark - I'm not worried about cost; just simplicity. I don't use my ZX much and, as said, I'm no ICE addict so I just want an easy drop in upgrade that requires no extra work other than out with the old and in with the new!!

I was impressed with the simple JBL 6x4s that I put in the rear so JBL fronts will be fine for me - and 6.5s drop straight in with no mods I take it...?
