Bonnet Catch

Help needed, how do I open the Bonnet with a broken cable.

Featured Replies

Depends where the cable has broken. If you can get to it from then inside with a pair of pliers then it should be easy. If you have to go from underneath then it's gonna be real pain !

The cable has broken under the bonnet I suspect at the catch. Does the center panel between the headlights come off easy.

Only if you can open the bonnet to undo the bolts ... frown.gif

This could be serious. Looked at the latch myself and its a real challenge to open this without the cable. Maybe need to drill a hole in the bonnet to spring it - horrible thought!

Sorted now.

Yes this was difficult.

I managed to remove the panel between the headlights by flexing the bonnet enough to get a screwdriver in between this panel and the bonnet, I then removed the two bolts that hold this panel in place. With the panel removed access was gained to the air filter. With the air filter removed then the catch bolts were easily removed.

If an after market air filter such as K&N is fitted then coming up from under the car would be preferable as more room is available.

ouch, did that damage the bonnet then? Sounds like a seriously nasty job though frown.gif

As it happens, where did the cable actually snap?
