WHAAA!!! Oil leak

I have an engine oil leak, as well as a clutch oil leak. frown.gif frown.gif

This is not good.

Any ideas where the oil could be coming from. I was under my car the other day and its not coming from the turbos. They are bone dry. It doesnt look like its coming from the head, because again, the upper part of the engine is dry and clean.

Any ideas people? Likey Scenarios?

If it is a blown head gasket, whats the aproximate cost of getting that done? If you are a competent mechanic, can you do that yourself?

Any help here. I am quite worried.

Have you got any more details front/back, left/right?

It seems to be coming from the back of the engine. Most probably the sump area.

As I said I have been under the car recentley doing the torsion bushes and I checked the turbos and they are dry.

However I did notice that the sump area/clutch area where a little moist with oil, but there where no drips. I have had a very slight clutch oil leak, but its very slow, but still needs doing.

This oil leak is not clutch fluid, it smells like engine oil.

Rear main seal perhaps. Bit of a bugger to fix, gearbox off jobbie.

Any one know of the approximate cost of fixing that?

Mine had a leak right round the sump after I had put the engine back in. There is no gasket around it, just that instant stuff. Had to take all the subframe and hold engine up to do it. An arsehole to do if it is that.

Probably the rear crankshaft oil seal tho saying all that.

Stuart,

Have a look at the point where the Gbox bell housing meets the block. Is there any oil around there? It does sound like the rear main seal tbh. How much? Mail me wink.gif z32@btinternet.com

Stu,

Check the oil pressure sensor housing aswell.

I have the exact same problem. I just bought a new rear main seal from the dealership for $18.88, or about 12 lbs. This is supposed to be done any time the clutch is replaced, so I am wondering why my clutch feels fine while my RMS leaks like a sumbitch.

My clutch was last done about 4-5 years ago so I dont know if its something to do with that.

I have just took my video camera under the car to see if I can show you. Its not very good though. Camera did well considered I was about 2 inches from the bottom away from the car.

Stewart, you could have filmed that better if you were being run over by your own car! LOL wink.gif

TBH from what I can see it does look like the majority of the oil is coming from between the bell housing and the block. That suggests rear main seal. Have you changed your pcvs? Have you checked the oil level???

Usually my car loses virtually no oil inbetween oil changes, but I checked it last night and it was on low. I topped it up a little.

PVCS? What are they. So no I havent changed them then.
