Even after fitting Series 2 PTU it still cuts out when hot!

Dammit Zed!!

Well I fitted the series 2 PTU I got from Courtesy a month ago - and today stuck in traffic on the M25(quite hot day) she stumbled, then lost power, wouldnt rev then died! frown.gif (misses was not happy) frown.gif

Like my old PTU problem I waited 30 mins for everything to cool down, restarted and we were off again!

What other components could be affected by heat to cause this cut out? Fuel related(as there was a strong smell of petrol when the car was running)?

Thanks lads,

Trev

sounds like a fuel leak?which was probably ur problem in the first place.

either that or ya got a duff ptu?

when you installed ur ptu did you move it away from where the old one was?a good place to put it is over near ya fuse box!

ask macca im sure he has a pic of where he /i,installed ours.

did u have the fuel smeel before u changed it?

I'm not sure, but I dont think there is any need in relocating the Series 2 PTU as I think they are supposed to be a different design(they are externally) and not affected by heat. But I will look at the idea as the "dongle" wiring thing on the new type PTU is an eyesore! smile.gif

I thought it might be a fuel issue but after thinking about it, consumpsion was the same as normal - also after the Z cooled down it was okay again?!?

The fuel smell I think is down to old fuel hoses that get loose when under the bonnet gets very hot(fuel hoses start expanding - not good I know).

It maybe the rest of my wiring gets affected by the heat build up - so maybe something else is loosing a connection when heated?

hmmm....

hi'

just something to try had a similar prob once not on a zed though it was the fuel cap/breather,after a short run the car would die, wait for 10 mins start again run ok

also the fuel level had a lot to do with it,

seen it on some cars actual deform the fuel tank due to the suction!

as i said just a thought..
