Exhaust Again

My previous post was about me removing my cats on a 1990 N/A because of a hole in it.I have read alot about these AIV things that connect to the exhaust,,which i will have to remove due to getting an after market pipe which has no inlets for these pipes. My main concern is

1-will this affect the car in any way?

2-will i have to do sum thing with the ECU(Standard)

3-what do i do with the pipes that i dis-connect?

4-do i block these pipes up?when removed

Thx Alot Guys For Your Advise On This Matter

...I removed my AIV's about 10 months ago. I removed everything including all of the piping within the engine bay and the solenoid(s). I left the pipes that are connected to the standard exhaust alone as I coulden't get them off. Mines an na - and I can't say I've noticed any difference since I removed them. You have to block off an air feed from the balance tube on top of the engine - that's the only thing apart from removal of AIV parts. I've no idea what effect removal has on emmissions, but an MOT in October will undoubtedly tell me. Fuel economy and accelleration seem unaffected. If emmissions become a problem, I will remove the block I've placed on the balance tube as I'm told this improves emmissions and can be used to 'get through an mot'.

...good luck

The pipe is only for cold start emissions. Removing it wont effect the mot.

And anyhow - you have a 1990 so you are allowed 3.5co instead of something like 0.3co on a 1992+. your car will pass fine unless there is something seriously wrong with it.

My TT passed with 1.3co, no cats.

Just make sure the engine is hot.

The ecu upgrades are supposed to disable the solenoid solenoid so no air will come out that pipe. Jacks manual solution sounds like a good option... cheaper!

Not sure how cat removal effects the power on an NA. If it's gunna be less or you don't want to do it why not buy some second hand ones in the for sale section?
