Loosing Water

Now she's loosing bl!"£$ s water. Not vast amounts, say about a cup full over a 50 mile return trip. Water also bubbles a bit when you blip the accerator (both radiator tops off). Doesn't seem to be much pressure in the coolant system either since I can easily compress the hoses with my fingers. According to ConZult the temperature is rock steady at 80C when warmed up.

Could this be the water pump or those pesky little short hoses. Problem is I can't see any water dripping when she's idling on my driveway. This has got me mega worried. Could it be water getting into the combustion system? She's a smooth as silk when running although low on power for a number of other reasons. A one of event last week was a hell of a large white cloud behind me when I floored it. Don'y know if it came form the exhaust, but the first tiem a coolant hose split I had a continuous white cloud following me.

I suppose I can't complian too much as she's just about to hit 170k. Any further ideas much appreciated.

Erm, HEADGASKET frown.gif

These sound like the classic symptoms of a blown headgasket unfortunately frown.gif Maybe do a compression test to see if/where the compression is affected.... Also maybe a pressure test on the coolant system too. Is there any white goo on the dipstick or in the oil filler cap???

No white goo on either the dipstick or around the filler cap.

The head gaskets were done in March along with a replacement head that had cracked. I've not overheated her since so surely she could not have gone agian????????

No white goo doesn't necessarily mean it isn't leaking - it just means it isn't leaking into the oil. Do a compression test and a pressure test on the coolant system next wink.gif
