Right, now as I said previously I figured my discs were a bit warped as I had a bit of a shudder through the steering from high speed during braking... however since the car is back on the road (been sitting on drive with no radiator last 2 weeks), its undrivable... any braking effort above 20mph and the steering shudders like f**k. The only thing I can think of is that a caliper has seized... causing only one side to push against disc...Make sense ? I tried pumping the brake pedal (with the car stopped) to try and free it, but no joy. Is there an easy way to tell of your disc are warped or your caliper is seized. I don't want to order these 3g discs and find it was the caliper all along.

Oh p.s. about the 3 g brake prices. You know that's the same price they advertise on their website. And I asked for a price for greenstuffs at my local corner shop car accessory place, and they are only 65 quid there (think EBC have a promo on), so I reckon you should be able to get a better deal if you hassle them.

here is the funny thing , the first time i phoned they gave me a better price then when i phoned to get confirmation the price had changed, i still think it is a good deal, although i saw you could get the brembo kit from gotrice for cheaper before bringin it in

if it is the caliper , all you probably have to do or should do is change the seals around the pistons, that should solve the siezure

jack the car up, spin the wheel.

if it doesnt spin, caliper binding

if it does, push the brake pedal... does it stop ? no ? caliper seized.

otherwise, take the wheel off, and go take a look, or take the disk off...

Hi Stu

I had exactly the same problem on all counts!. One of my front calipers keeps seizing on and I had the dreaded steering shake. I had the calipers overhauled but it did occur again abou 6 months later. I don't know how much new ones are but I am going to look at replacing the stock items. As for this shaking problem I tried everything to sort it out. I had just about every bush changed that could be changed ( made a great improvement on handling that did! ). finally I had the discs skimmed (they were bought new from Silvia engineering). They were out quite a bit BUT this stopped the shaking problem stright away. It cost me £45.00 to get the front disc's skimmed, so not too bad cost wise.

Hope you resolve this problem soon M8. It does make the car not such a joy to drive when it won't stop!!.

Seez ya.

simon where did you have your discs skimmed

Hi Warren

A firm called Broadlands Engineering on the I.O.W did them for me. Did a great job as it happens. Mabey you should take a long weekend to the Island and get yours done if they need skimming M8. They do work on a Saturday and it doesn't take too long for them. Or if you want me to get them done for you give me a shout.

Seez ya.

cheers.

Took it to my mechanic I'm going to now (NISSAN dealer can f**k off, I'm sick of their 60/hour costs). He says its the discs.

Just ordered a set of 3gs with greenstuffs.

Looks like I also have this prob.

Mines just started doing the same! But only now & then. Low speed nothing, 50,60,70 fierse shaking,- on an air field! quite ok.

Done the obvious checks & so on cant really see the problem. I can get the discs skimmed

ok, but what would be the minimun distance between outer faces for heat & safty.

harve.

I have had the judder for about 1 month when braking. I have considered the group buy on discs and pads but yesterday so nutter pulled out on me and I had to stop quick....lots of rubber on roads and lots of skid marks in pants..Now there is no judder.. Must have been a sticky caliper....

------------------

well a skim will take of roughly .5 mm depending on the setup so it is really not to much of a problem, as long as your discs dont have a lip at the edge cause then they are on there way out

Same brake judder on my jap na import 12 months ago. Checked the caliper pistons and they moved un evenly (remove pads then press brake pedal). After cleaning and lightly greasing with pink grease behing the outer seals (really easy) the pistons all moved easily and together. Brake judder went down enormously to an acceptable level (passed an mot) and 6 months later i got rid of the remaining minor judder by buying new disks (£45 each - na ownership is cheap). Good Luck - if you want further info, let me know - I live in Ipswich.

cheers

Jack

so do I jack ! - live in ipswich that is. Which one is it? The red one (work outside the labs? ) or the grey one ? or another ? Mine is the yellow one.
