JWT? where can I get them from then? benefits?

Be careful with chipping your car, consider what you intend to do to it in the future and make sure that it is easy to have the chip re-programmed to handle changes you make, eg. new turbos, etc. JWT are Jim Wolf Technology in California and you can buy their ECU and/or chip direct via www.jimwolftechnology.com or from www.stillen.com. They ask you what you have done to the car and program a chip to suit, send you a new ECU (also a spare standard chip) and you send your old one back to them for your $500 deposit back. Good ECU but its from the US so the fuel mapping is for their octane fuel not the UK. Also if you want it re-programmed you have to send the chip back to them and fit the standard chip in temporarily. SE are actually SE Nissan in Maldon Essex, some people love them, some people hate them but although some people say they can be slow sometimes, I have never heard anyone complain about their workmanship. They don't have a rolling road so tuning/mapping of their chip is done running the car up and down the roads nearby? Other good chip'ing alternatives are DTA and Unichip both of which are custom mappable, a good supplier is Nobles in Chesterfield who seemingly do both of these and have a superb facility with a rolling road with purpose built fans at both ends of the room. www.johnnoblemotorsport.co.uk

JWT have been doing it for years but are in the US, SE have loads of 300zxTT experience but don't have a rolling road, Nobles have some experience of 300zx but not a lot.

The trouble is down to trust and referals, you will get loads of differing views from on here but the best idea is to go along and see the place before you book in to have it done and if possible watch them work on someone elses car to see if they do a good job. Most important make sure that before you hand over money that they have asked or told you what is fitted to your car and have mapped it so it runs ok on idle and under heavy throttle. IF IN DOUBT WALK AWAY would be my humble opinion based on some bad advice given previously and bad experiences since owning my 300. Oh yes, I went for a JWT chip and although it is great if I had to go back and buy another it would be a Unichip. Sorry to go at length but hey I paid to have my say on here. End of preaching, but I'm sure that other more techie people will have something more to add from their much longer experience with 300's than me.

Andy,

John is right in everything above but you can pay a 500 dollar exchange deposit and then about 450 squids to send your ECU over the pond and have a JWT chip installed.

Means you will be without your Z for a few weeks at least I reckon.

Send your ECU or take the car down to SE as the whole point of this is the first step which is socketing your ECU to take an aftermarket chip as the stock Nissan chip is soldered to the board.

OR...

Email ChrisC who can socket your ECU and sort you out with many chips for a fraction of the price and you won't be left without your beloved car for an eon! wink.gif

Hard way? Easy way? Upto you matey!

I would say chip next too. I'd reccomend JWT of which there are many clones. Don't get superchip. I wont go into any detail about SE, but I don't use them.

Chip and insurance. Yes effected. If you tell them most people may not want to insurance you or it'll up the premium. Check it out first.
