Someone in work reckons that you can watch movies that have been put on a memory stick just by plugging it straight into the USB on my TV. Is this right, anyone done it like this before? I would have thought that you would have needed some sort of converter as most movies not in DVD format are avi files. So can my TV play avi files is what I am basically asking? :) Cheers folks!

It depends on which formats your telly can play, if you google the make and model number - you should be able to find this out quite easy.

My LG plays some formats but not all.

Hope that this helps - Andy

Cheers Andy. I have an LG 42LH2000 (same as your by any chance?) :)

I have an LG 50PK590, just over a year old - plays various formats, rejects others - it's a bit fussy sometimes but that's probably my fault more than the LGs

The USB sockets for mine are on the Left hand edge, along with HDMI and AV connections.

Do you have a home cinema or blue ray player with USB connection? If so, you could play through there.

Nah only a DVD player unfortunately. Maybe need to invest in a blue ray player then.

It doesnt say service only mate so I guess its ok :)

Give it a try then, again using the make and model number of your dvd player - find out what formats it supports.

You could always try shoving the USB stick up yer arse mate, can watch the movie in your head then. Trust me it works :shifty:

I have tried mate but it dont work. I need a HDMI cable

You will get better file compatibilty if you use a media extender like WDTV LIVE or something like that. I use both the USB on my TV and the media extender for the files the TV cannot play by itself...

i bought a couple of tesco tv's which have usb and they record and work great, set up timer it records the program onto the usb(sold with tv) and you watch it when you want.

dan.:thumbup1:

i bought a sony tv from tescos £249 great price and came with a usb plug that you can watch films, music, and pictures from its great

My Panny viera 1080p doesn't have a usb input but my cheapo Cello 1080p 3d tv does, and everything i`ve throw at it yet!! including 35gb 3d hd files it plays through the usb port!! only some have no sound for some reason, it also records from tv :)
