Tyre Pressures

I have just bought a 1990 ZX import. The car is great but would appreciate some help. The front tyres are 235/45 ZR 17 the rear 265/40 ZR 17. Has anybody any ideas on what the correct (or correct ish) tyre pressures should be. I am currently running at about 30 pound per sq inch all round.

Thanks

Chris

Hey Chris - Dont you find that 20 is a bit low for 17" rims? I have 17" and I am running 35PSI.

Anything more than 30 is OK but then you have to balance between comfort and tire endurance. Higher pressure is good for the tires ,more miles on them, and bad for u and the frame of the car, whereas less pressure will give a comfortable ride but tires will wear out quicker.

I asked the same question when I bought my Z. I run at 33 on the fronts(235/17") and 36 on the rears(255/17").

Ride is a bit jiggly and the road noise can be annoying at low speed but who cares about the noise at 100+mph!

I must say I notice a difference in handling when I pump my tyres up from 30 to around 36psi. Sharpens up handling a treat!!

Not too clever in wet though, wheelspins and drifts everywhere biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Fun is with the traction control switched OFF biggrin.gif

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.
