exhaust piping size make car slower?

1990 twin t (no mods )

Does anyone know what the piping size should be from the cat onwords? I have now two pipes of 60mm and it looks like ive lost somehting like 20 to 30 hp! Is that possible? Does the piping size maters so much?

I'm no expert, but it seems logical that a narrower pipe would restrict gas flow and therefore reduce power.

I had a single pipe of 7 cm from the cat onwords and changed to twin 6 cmm , the loss is clear the car is not as fast as it used to be!!!!

Yes a wider pipe can drop performance... It has to do with using the flow of gasses through the exhaust to draw new exhaust gasses from the cylinders. If the pipe is too wide you could lose this effect and drop power...

I've got a HKS Super Drager single Cat back system that that goes 2pipes into 1 from the Cat back, it seems to have given me an extra 15 to 20 hp, defo more torque in the mid-range.

I agree with Duffman on this one, go for a properly developed and tuned exhaust from Blitz/HKS/Mongoose to acheive real power gains.

Normally on a forced induction (turbo or supercharged) car the bigger the pipe i.e. less back pressure will increase power, but on a natrally aspirated machine you need a smaller pipe to give some back pressure or performance drop will be way too noticable. It is generally best to go with the top names as they will have put in all the development time and effort.

So what is the best solution as far as pipping size concerns ? Whats the size for the twin pipe system and what is the size if I decide to go again for a single one (the old exhaust is no more).

I have to replace my exhaust system on my 90NA stock (mostly stock). how do I get a good system without spending an arm and a leg?
