the last couple of times ive been out, the speedo has dropped to zero for about 10 minutes then come back. this latest time, the hicas warning light also came on. Not the best when you're trundling up the motorway! hicas light went out when i turned the ignition on and off.

So! are these related? anything to worry about? coupled to the fact my central locking and parking sensors are duff and i keep getting dripped on, my niggle list is growing

Power steering/hicas is affected by the speedo signal. It sounds like you either have a dry joint on the speedo circuit board, common fault or the speed sensor in the gearbox or wiring for both.

My speedo problem, ie similar to yours was a dry joint on the board, usually less problematic when hot.

Thanks for that. Doesn't sound like too complicated a fix. Well for somebody other than me obviously

After my speedo failed 4 times on one trip I am now having to usemy sat nav as a back up. My other half is planning to have a spirited attempt at fixing it!! Any hints or tips on how to get to the speedo circuit board would be appreciated! Is it a difficult thing to get to and put back together? I would rather not have a speedo then an annoying squeak or creak cos we couldn't get it back properly.

I would check the speed sensor in the gearbox first.

Your instrument cluster etc will probably be unique in this country... so inexperienced dabbling with it is not reccomended. IMO

Hmm. Now I'm all indecisive again! Will have to get it sorted but def don't want to make things worse. Would normally just charge off to Zedworld but things are a bit awkward at the mo. does look a bit fiddly. Can see it getting shoved back together with duct tape n blu tack!!

Hi guys, I think my speedo may be going the same way, today I saw it have a wobble twice in 50 motorway miles today. It kicked down about 40mph then recovered with a bit of a jiggle (blink and you would miss it). Did your speedos do this before dying completely?

Thanks

Yes. Only spotted it once before it dropped to zero a few days later. Still not had it fixed yet. I just downloaded Speedbox app on my iPhone and use that as a back up for when the speedo is AWOL
